Cherry is a kind of fruit that we are all very familiar with, which is rich in nutrients and tastes very good, so it is welcomed by many people. So now the planting area of cherry is still relatively large, when planting cherry, its seedling method is mainly bud grafting. So when should we bud the cherry trees? How should we proceed? The following editor brings you the time and method of budding cherry trees. Let's have a look!

1. Budding time

When budding, the grafting time is very important. The suitable time for bud grafting of cherry trees is generally in the early and late stages of cherry growth. Prophase refers to the middle and late March, a total of about 20 days. The later period is from July to August, and if the environment is right, it can be extended to September for a total of about 50 days. It should be noted that the time of grafting should not be early. If it is too early, the scion is very tender and the skin is not thick, which will affect the growth of buds. However, grafting should not be too late, if it is too late, most branches have stopped growing, and it is difficult to peel off the buds.

2. Selecting panicle and grafting bud

At the time of budding, if the time is different, then the choice of scion and bud are different. In the early stage of cherry seedling grafting and post-grafting management and protection, it is necessary to select robust branches and select about 6 full buds from the middle as buds. Then in the late bud grafting, as long as it is a robust scion buds, in addition to the signature buds and autumn shoot buds, they can be used as buds. Finally, if the bud grafting is carried out in September, then the full bud should be selected as the bud on the overgrown branch in the inner chamber of the crown.

3. Cutting and grafting buds

Before budding, we first need to deal with the budding. First of all, cut off the bud, and the bud piece should be kept as big as possible. The length is controlled around 25cm and the width is 1cm. As a result, the contact area between rootstocks and buds can be expanded, and the survival rate can be improved. If the bud piece is too small, then its survival rate is very low. And even if the rootstock and bud mouth can normally heal and survive, the buds are also prone to burst and warp, resulting in poor growth and failure in serious cases.

4. Grafting and binding

After cutting the buds, cut a knife across the rootstock seedling from the ground, keeping the length at about 1 cm, and see the xylem. Then in the position of the horizontal blade, cut vertically from the middle down, keeping the length at 2.5 cm, also to reach the xylem. Then when inserting the bud slice, the two pieces of cortex should be gently peeled off, and then the bud should be naturally embedded in the rootstock cortex. Do not push hard, otherwise there will be glue flow phenomenon, resulting in a decline in the survival rate. Then use the appropriate specification of polyethylene film to tie up the graft joint. After budding, it can heal in about two weeks, and the film can be released after three weeks, and the survival rate can reach about 80%.

The above is a brief introduction of the time and method of budding of cherry trees. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
