1. Soil and variety selection

To cultivate muskmelon, the soil layer is deep, loose, fertile and high-lying land, surrounded by good ventilation, convenient drainage, and no pollution, so as to produce a green harmless melon. Muskmelon was cultivated in open field to select varieties with early maturity, good fruit setting, beautiful shape, strong disease resistance and good quality, such as Elizabeth, Ruoren, Xialong, Xuefengmi No.2 and so on.

2. Seed treatment

The seeds of muskmelon cultivated in open field should be treated before sowing, first of all, the suitable seeds should be dried in the sun for one day, and then disinfected in diluted methyl thiophanate solution for 15 minutes, which can play an excellent sterilization and disinfection work. Seeds need to be prepared for seed germination after sterilization. First, put the seeds in warm water of 50-60 degrees, soak them for about 6-8 hours, and pay attention to the water temperature not lower than 30 degrees. After soaking, wrap it in a wet cloth, keep the temperature between 30 and 32 degrees, and sow seeds one day when the radicle is exposed.

3. Seedling raising and transplanting

Sow the seeds on loose and breathable soil, keep the temperature not lower than 15 degrees, and water them appropriately. Generally, they can emerge in about a month, and then transplant them in the field after 3-5 leaves have grown. In order to avoid the late frost and carry out in advance, transplanting can be done in the middle and late March, when the seedlings are in one heart with three leaves. The soil temperature can be raised in the greenhouse 15-30 days before transplanting, and the seedbed should be watered thoroughly before planting, and then transplant with soil. The suitable row spacing is 90 cm and the plant spacing is 50 cm.

4. Fertilizer and water management

Increasing the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer during the growing period can increase the sugar content of muskmelon, while partial application of nitrogen fertilizer will reduce the sugar content. After fruit setting, the application of potassium sulfate per mu can effectively increase the sweetness of muskmelon by 1-2 degrees. Spraying potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution at the initial stage of fruit can significantly increase sweetness and yield. Proper irrigation in the period of rapid fruit expansion can also significantly increase yield and improve varieties. When the number of melons reaches its peak, it is found that melon leaves can be irrigated in furrow during the day.
