The germination period of seeds varies with different types of flowers. Some seeds take months or even years to germinate, and artificial germination of seeds can shorten their dormancy period.

Flooding treatment

The seeds of Bauhinia, Pearl Plum, Bauhinia and other flowers have a short dormancy period and are easy to germinate. They can be sowed directly after soaking in warm water of 40 to 60 degrees for 1-2 days. And some flower seeds with gelatinous, waxy seed coat, such as torch tree, should first soak the seeds with 90 degrees of water and cool naturally for 24 hours to soften and absorb water to promote seed germination.

Matters needing attention

When using water immersion method to deal with seeds, it is necessary to change water frequently, and the time when the water temperature exceeds 60-90 degrees should not exceed half an hour or an hour, and then the water temperature should be reduced to below 40 degrees, otherwise the seed embryos are easy to die.

Low temperature treatment

Rosa roxburghii, Chimonanthus roxburghii, Forsythia suspensa, cloves and some herbal flowers sown in autumn need a certain period of low temperature (the temperature is between 0 and 10 degrees) to break the dormancy of seed embryos and promote seed germination.

Operation method

Stir the seeds evenly with the sand with a humidity of 60%, put them in a plastic bag, tighten the mouth of the bag and put it into the flowerpot, and then bury the whole flowerpot in the open field 40-60 cm deep. Or you can put the seeds in a 3-5 degree refrigerator for two or three months until the seeds are sown in the spring. You can also sow seeds in autumn and wait for the seeds to germinate in the following spring after being naturally frozen in winter.

Variable temperature treatment

The seeds of flowers such as tassel, peony and peony have the habit of double dormancy of radicle and Hypocotyl. Radicle needs to break dormancy for one month or more under the condition of 25-32 degrees. Hypocotyl needs to break dormancy for one month or more under the condition of 3-5 degrees. When dealing with such seeds, they should be mixed with wet sand before sowing, and then turn to low temperature after a period of high temperature.

Matters needing attention

When the seeds are treated with variable temperature, it is necessary to ensure that there is enough time for the high temperature period and the freezing period, otherwise it is still difficult for the seeds to emerge after sowing.
