Affected by the epidemic of novel coronavirus (Wuhan pneumonia), domestic sales of fruits and exports were affected, and Maogu mandarin was also affected after Sakya, a pineapple in Taitung.

More than 1/4 of Maogu is produced in China every year and sold to China. This year, due to climatic factors, the production of Maogu mandarin decreased and the fruit B (less bright in appearance and the same delicious pulp) increased. It was originally hoped that the income of fruit A (beautiful in appearance and pulp) would make up for the loss of fruit B. however, the epidemic in China was so serious that all the orders in sales stopped and the original foreign sales returned, but the domestic market was not as good as expected because of the epidemic. The farmers lamented that "this loss is more serious than the wind disaster."

Tainan Agricultural improvement Farm says that Maogu mandarin is rich in nutrients such as high dietary fiber, vitamin C, organic acids and minerals, and is now in the growing season of Maogu citrus. Eating more is not only good for your health, but also can support farmers in Taiwan. Farmers appeal that although the B fruit is not beautiful in appearance, the pulp is just as delicious, and consumers are asked to buy more.

The acreage of Maogu mandarin has grown year after year in recent years. Statistics from the Agriculture and Food Department show that in 107, the production area of Maogu mandarin in Taiwan was 1771.34 hectares, with an output of 32173.8 metric tons, accounting for nearly 1 million tons of external sales, a total of 10785 metric tons, of which 7798 metric tons were sold to China, meaning that nearly 1/4 of Maogu oranges in Taiwan were sold to China.

The first few major producing areas of Maogu mandarin in Taiwan are Taichung Dongshi, Yunlin Gukeng, Yunlin Douliu and Chiayi Dalin. the total production of Maogu mandarin in Taichung East potential reached 8453 metric tons, which is the highest in Taiwan. the order is Yunlin Gukeng 4357 metric tons, Yunlin Douliu 2606 metric tons and Chiayi Dalin 1429 metric tons.

"Maogu oranges are slowly harvested from south to north. Maoku oranges in Taichung are in full bloom from mid-February to April." Chiang Kuo-Hu, director of the promotion department of the Dongshi District Peasants' Association, said that most of the Maogu oranges before the Lantern Festival came from the south, especially Yunjia, but the southern ones were less resistant to storage, and the central ones were first frozen and released one after another. in previous years, around the middle of February, they began to be exported one after another, so the bulk of Maogu oranges exported is Taichung East.

Dongshi District Peasants' Association: weather leads to the increase of B fruit, while A fruit is affected by the epidemic, export and domestic gas purchase.

Chiang Kuo-hu said that there were a lot of Rain Water some time ago, and the temperature was low. Maogu mandarin also had anthracnose this year, and it is estimated that the yield of Maoku citrus in Taiwan has been reduced by about 30%. The ratio of A to B is 7:3 in previous years, but it is about 6:4 this year.

"the epidemic messed up our plans." Jiang Guohu said that although the number of fruits An is less than in previous years, it is enough to cope with the original export orders. Farmers expect that although the production of Maogu mandarin has been reduced, the market price will naturally increase to make up for the losses, but the emergence of novel coronavirus has reduced people's willingness to consume and greatly reduced their buying gas. at present, the news of the channel is not optimistic, and the sales of fruits A that have been put on the shelves are not as good as expected.

Wu Baolai, the 81st monitor of the fruit tree production and marketing class in the Dongshi district of Taichung, says that his class is a professional production and marketing area of Maogu mandarin, with 21 members and an annual output of more than 1,000 metric tons. "in the past, at least half of the exports were exported, but this year only the farmers' association came to place orders." Wu Baolai said that due to the impact of the epidemic in China, since the Lunar New year, only 300 metric tons have been purchased by farmers' associations entrusted by the Taichung municipal government, and export traders have come to see the origin several times without issuing orders. so far, some of the production and marketing classes have shipped to the fruit and vegetable wholesale market, as well as a small number of home matching orders.

Why is there still a sales problem in reducing production? Peasant Association: epidemic situation affects consumption

With the weather affecting the appearance of the fruit and the chaos caused by the epidemic, farmers bemoan the dilemma: "if there is an export order, the A fruit is not enough, but now there is no order at all, and it is not good to buy gas at home, so it is very difficult to sell." "if A can't sell, B can only go to the auction market, and all the crew will lose money. This time the loss is even worse than the storm." Wu Baolai said that Maogu mandarin is rarely processed, and the price of B fruit is not good, so it has reflected the problem to the Agriculture and Food Department and the agricultural reform farm, and hopes that government units can assist in the sale of media channels.

Farmers unanimously said that the production of Maogu mandarin has been reduced, but foreign orders have also decreased. Based on the domestic market demand, it is estimated that at least 20,000 metric tons are needed. Theoretically, the domestic market should be able to digest the existing Maogu mandarin. Why do farmers encounter sales problems?. In this regard, Jiang Guohu believes: "under normal conditions, it is estimated that domestic sales will not be affected, but the epidemic will affect everyone's consumption behavior."

"in that year of SARS, buying gas was very bad from March to July, but it only rebounded in August." Jiang Guohu said that according to the SARS experience at that time, Chinese people go out shopping less frequently, and their spending power will also decline, so farmers' sales will not be smooth.
