What should flowers do if they can't survive the winter?
Some tropical and subtropical flowers, such as Milan, Magnolia, jasmine, poinsettia, cyclamen, magnolia, epiphyllum, crab claw orchid, tiger tail orchid, cactus, sugarcane and foliage plants, all need to be protected from cold and warmth in winter in order to survive the winter safely.
Families with heating equipment generally have little problem with flowers overwintering. When potted flowers are placed indoors, they should not be too close to the heat source, by keeping a distance, while paying attention to indoor ventilation, and often spraying water to the leaves to prevent air dryness and increase air humidity. When the room temperature is above 0 degrees and below 5 degrees, the small potted flowers can cover the whole plant with a plastic bag, tie up the opening with a rope, and put them in a sunny room, so that the potted flowers can survive the winter.
Some cold-fearing potted flowers can be put in a larger flowerpot, and some insulation materials such as sawdust, grain chaff, perlite, charcoal and so on can be put between the two pots and on the basin surface, and then covered with plastic film or glass cover, the heat preservation effect is also very good.
Build a simple greenhouse on the balcony and put more hardy flowers and trees, such as camellias, rhododendrons, Michelia, etc., which are good for growth and flowering in the coming year. For some tree stump bonsai which like warmth and fear of severe cold and bonsai planted in shallow and small pots, they are easy to suffer frost damage in winter. after entering winter, different cold prevention measures should be taken according to their cold tolerance. For cold-resistant plum blossom, elm, ginkgo, five-needle pine, sparrow plum, pomegranate, etc., can be put outdoors, but also pay attention to anti-freezing and freeze-cracking damage, can appropriately increase the application of potash fertilizer, increase the ability of cold resistance. For the more hardy June snow, southern bamboo, Luohansong and so on, they should be moved indoors, but there is no need to heat up indoors.
For cold-resistant Jiuli incense, palm bamboo, banyan tree, Phoenix tail bamboo, Luohan bamboo, etc., should be put in the heated indoor, for those with shallow pots, small pots and poor growth of bonsai should also be put indoors, and properly heated. Most foliage plants like high and medium temperature, they can not stand low temperature, otherwise they will produce frost injury, or even die. Therefore, foliage plants should take certain measures to prevent cold and keep warm when they are overwintering. Different foliage plants have different requirements for overwintering temperature. Those that can withstand temperatures below 5 ℃ and above 2 ℃ are: Cymbidium mongolica, brown bamboo, cycad, asparagus, rubber tree, hanging orchid, southern fir, etc.; those that can withstand temperatures above 5 ℃ and below 10 ℃ are: colourful leaf grass, aloe, plantain, star anise plate, tortoise back bamboo, etc.; those whose temperature needs to be above 10 ℃ are: green pineapple, Guangdong evergreen, Xi Lin taro, variegated wood, pineapple and so on.
Flower growers can choose suitable foliage plants according to their own conditions to avoid losses.
