How to cut Butterfly Orchid Sword
There are many flowers and plants that can draw foil in nature, and Phalaenopsis is one of them. And for these long foil flowers and plants, it is usually possible to use foil to cut and propagate. So, what about Jack?
Phalaenopsis uses foil to cut and propagate seedlings, and its application principle is actually the process of branch cutting. Therefore, we can usually follow the branch cutting method to implement. But when cutting foil for cutting, it is recommended that it be carried out before flowering. Because it is often not as easy to survive as before cutting foil after flowering to cuttage.
When Phalaenopsis draws the foil, we can cut it off along the base of the foil, and then put the foil in a cool and ventilated place to dry the wound. If the wound is not healed before cutting, it is often more likely to cause wound infection and lead to cuttage failure.
At the same time, while the wound is drying, we also need to prepare some clean peat soil, soak the soil thoroughly, and put it into a flowerpot for backup. Wait until the wound on the butterfly orchid sword condenses and dries, and then insert its base directly into the peat soil for cultivation.
Because Phalaenopsis itself is native to the tropical rain forest and has the characteristics of being warm and cold, it is appropriate to control the ambient temperature between 15 °C and 25 °C. Therefore, it is not suitable for cutting propagation in winter, because the plant will stop growing when the ambient temperature is lower than 10 °C, and freezing injury will easily occur when it is lower than 5 °C, which will affect the survival.
When the temperature and humidity are suitable, the cutting butterfly orchid sword can usually take root and sprout in a month or so. When the cuttings sprout smoothly, we can choose the machine to transplant to the pot. Finally, we can use it as a Phalaenopsis pot for conservation.
