To scientifically solve the social and economic problems facing Taiwan's agriculture depends on the unremitting efforts of researchers! The Council of Agriculture awarded the "National Agricultural Science Award" for the first time this year, which is the highest award for national agricultural science and technology research and development. the Council of Agriculture stressed that the difference between this award and the past agricultural awards is the integration and innovation of cross-fields, as well as their practical application in the social economy. The award is not based on the publication of academic papers, but on the actual solution of agricultural problems as the selection criteria.

The National Agricultural Science Award consists of five major areas, namely, "industrial contribution", "socio-economic development", "forward-looking innovation", "cross-domain value-added" and "environmental sustainability". This year, a total of 85 groups participated in the competition, and finally 17 groups won different awards. across the fields of agriculture, forestry, fishing and animal husbandry. Lu Husheng, chairman of the Taiwan Agricultural Association, said that the rules stipulate that the participating teams must produce results in the first 1 to 3 years before they can participate in the competition, but this year all the award-winning teams have been working silently for more than three years. These low-key researchers deserve everyone's applause and recognition.

The winner took a group photo (Photo Lin Yijun) for four years to develop the marine information system and successfully removed the yellow card.

This time, he won the outstanding award in the category of social and economic development. for the marine information system Deep Sea 9 team, Xu Weiyuan, an assistant professor at Taiwan Ocean University, has spent four years developing Deep Sea 9 system, which includes geographic information systems such as ship positioning system (VMS), electronic catch return diary (eLogbooks), catch management system and satellite maps. Deep Sea 9 system successfully removed Taiwan from the EU fishery yellow card list in June this year. To preserve profits for offshore fishing.

Xu Weiyuan explained that after the installation of the ship Positioning system (VMS), the trajectory, voyage and catch of the fishing vessel can be known, and the positioning and catch information of the fishing vessel can be provided immediately throughout the year. The system is currently deployed in the Fisheries Monitoring Center and its main tasks are track returns, reloading fish at designated ports, port inspection reports, and intelligent detection of transferable transfers at sea.

"two weeks later, the European Union will come back to Taiwan to see offshore fishing. Although we have been removed from the yellow card before, if we have any further problems, we will not issue a yellow card any more. Instead, we will directly issue a red card, but we are confident." Xu Weiyuan said confidently that although the resources were not compared with those of foreign countries, the system is now ahead of the world, and research and development will not stop there, but will continue to strengthen existing functions and update data, so that the Deep Sea 9 system can give Taiwan a maritime advantage.

Assistant Professor Xu Weiyuan came to the stage to receive the award (Photography _ Lin Yijun) flat-bellied wasps to deal with litchi stink bugs, clear the waste garden and reduce the hatching rate

The award for excellent rooting in the category of social and economic development was won by the bee god list team in the field of seedling transformation. In order to solve the rampant harm of litchi stink bugs in recent years, the research team released flat-bellied wasps during the spawning period to make them parasitic on the surface of litchi stink bug eggs, and statistical control results showed that the hatching rate could be reduced by 70-80%.

"at present, about 14000 (wasps) per hectare will have a control effect." Wu Yihui, an assistant researcher on the transformation of Miao Farm, said that a total of 14 million animals have been released this year with technology transfer manufacturers. At present, major litchi and longan producing counties and cities have come to consult for use, mainly using drones to clean up waste gardens, and some organic farmers will also come to inquire.

Wu Yihui believes that the high cost of parasitic wasps is also a problem that needs to be solved. Miao has developed an automatic egg sticking machine to reduce the manpower required for mass production by 90%. Through cold storage technology, flat-bellied wasps can be stored for five months to reduce the pressure on production. At present, the price of flat-bellied wasps is about 1 yuan, but it is hoped that the cost will fall again after there are enough wasps in the future.

The award for collective wisdom and effort in the category of environmental sustainability is the weed red rice tracking team. Wu Donghong, an associate researcher in the crop group of the Agricultural Test Institute, uses molecular geography tracking technology to find out the occurrence hot areas of weedy red rice, set up demonstration areas for prevention and control, and give lectures on prevention measures. clear the seed bank, block the breeding cycle and mechanical transmission, and improve the quality of domestic rice.

"Weed-type red rice is both rice and weed." Wu Donghong said that in recent years, a high degree of mechanization and labor-saving production, as well as the spread of seedlings, have led to the rapid spread of red rice throughout Taiwan. even if the rice fields of fine varieties are mixed with more than 0.4%, the rice quality will drop by 10%. In terms of actual income, 11 million yuan will be lost if 300 hectares of rice fields are mixed with red rice.

Through a general survey of the whole Taiwan, Wu Donghong found out the hot spots of red rice in Taiwan. "[we] will teach farmers how to identify by the appearance of seedlings." Teach farmers to identify and pull out in the field, and communicate with the nursery operators from the source, improve the renewal rate of qualified rice varieties in the nursery, and reduce the situation of mixed red rice.

The only winner of this Outstanding Achievement Award is the edamame bean industry team, including "Mr. edamame".
