Hydroponic flower is a kind of flower which takes water as medium, directly cultivates flowers in containers containing water, and applies nutrients required for growth to cultivate them for indoor greening decoration.

The advantages of hydroponic flowers

Hydroponic flowers are clean and sanitary, with few pests and diseases, beneficial to human health; elegant style and strong ornamental. The hydroponic flowers can not only observe leaves, stems and flowers, but also appreciate the ever-changing root system, which increases the decorative property of flowers, eliminates the trouble of finding soil and managing when preparing various pots of soil, and adapts to the characteristics of high efficiency and fast rhythm in modern society. Can make use of the variety of flowers have thousands of shapes and colors, with a number of flowers to arbitrarily configure and layout, so as to achieve similar flower arrangement artistic effect.

2. Types of flowers suitable for hydroponics

The flowers suitable for hydroponic culture include: Cymbidium, Oncidium, Chlorophytum, Pinwheel Grass, Purple Dactylum, Purple Back Evergreen, Lophatherum lophatherum, Pterophyllum pendula, Auspicious, etc.; Jasmine, Fortune Tree, Brazil Tree, Ficus, Osmanthus, Kumquat, Rose, Schefflera chinensis, Variegated Tree, Palm Bamboo, Ivy, Dracaena, etc.; View leaves in the flowers of asparagus, evergreen, turtle bamboo, tiger tail orchid, ruby, flower taro, green giant, green radish, gold queen, silver queen, Phnom Penh rich bamboo, emerald hi Lin taro, fruit taro, big leaf Dai powder leaves, floral evergreen, star point Dai powder leaves; bulb flowers in the tulip, hyacinth, cyclamen, Chinese narcissus, calla lily, tuberose jade, lily, etc.; fleshy stem flowers in crab claw orchid, unicorn, cactus, precious stone flower, etc.

III. Planting techniques

General use no bottom hole, inside and outside the double-layer screen set pot of special hydroponic flowerpot; for the general family, with a certain transparency of the apparatus suitable for use. The planting season is arranged from mid-April to mid-late June and from late September to early November. The temperature is suitable during this period, the life activities of plants are vigorous, planting, water cutting are easy to take root.

Choose potted flowers with beautiful plant type and strong growth, wash off mud or other media at the root with water. Plants with weak growth potential, less nutrients in the body, slow physiological activities, washing roots and water cultivation will affect their roots and growth, so it is not suitable to select. For some types of flowers suitable for hydroponic cultivation, semi-mature branches can also be cut in their vegetative growth period and inserted in water to take root. Fleshy and succulent plants, stems with soft water storage tissue, branches cut from the mother should not be directly inserted into the water, but should be placed in a cool and dry place for 2-3 days, until the wound is fully dry before water insertion.

When planting, for the roots are very lush, can repair 1/3-1/2 of the fibrous roots. Root pruning is beneficial to the regeneration of hydroponic plant roots, early germination of new roots, thus promoting the absorption of nutrients by plants. After pruning, first soak the roots of the plants or the base of the cuttings in 5g/L potassium permanganate solution for half an hour, then insert the roots into the meshes respectively, try to spread the roots, and at the same time carefully operate, do not damage the roots, and then use vermiculite or ceramsite, sponge, etc. to compact and fix the plants.

IV. Post-planting management

Whether it is a double-layer or single-layer pot, water should be changed regularly, which is the key to the success of flower hydroponics. Because the roots of flowers grow in water, they will produce mucus, and too much mucus will pollute the water quality. When flowers are cultured in water, except for some mineral elements absorbed by flowers, the rest of the nutrient solution remains in water. When the residual substances accumulate to a certain extent, they will cause harm to the growth of flowers. The oxygen content in the water will gradually decrease with the growth of flowers, and when it is reduced to a certain amount, it will affect the growth of flowers.

For normal growth of general flowers, 7-10 days in summer, 15 days in spring and autumn, 15-20 days in winter to change water once. When changing water, wash away the mucus at the roots and cut off rotten roots and yellow leaves. For the newly potted hydroponic flowers, because of the new wounds on their roots, they are easy to rot, so they must change the water frequently; especially in high temperature weather, the oxygen content in the water is reduced, the plant respiration is strengthened, and the oxygen consumption is high. Change the water frequently, and change it every day until the flowers grow new white roots in the water. Only then can the number of water changes be gradually reduced.

Before changing the water, pour out the accumulated water in the basin, and then wash the substrate or single-layer basin repeatedly with clean water to clean the remaining nutrient solution; at the same time, wash the root system of the plant with water. Then, pour enough fresh nutrient solution. Usually, when the water consumption of 20%-30%, must add water supplement; pay attention not to let the water add too much, but to let a part of the roots exposed to the water surface.

Under hydroponic conditions, all the fertilizer applied is dissolved in water, and its concentration will produce fertilizer damage as long as it slightly exceeds the tolerance of flowers. Therefore, hydroponic flowers should generally be quantitatively applied with special nutrient solutions. Nutrient solution is prepared according to the proportion, concentration and pH of nutrients required by flowers.

The suitable growth temperature of indoor hydroponic flowers is 18℃-25℃. Often in high temperature nutrient solution, the roots of hydroponic flowers will turn black and brown; in severe cases, they will rot, which can lead to the death of the whole plant. Therefore, in summer, it is necessary to prevent direct sunlight from drying the basin, so as not to burn the water in the basin and damage the roots of the plant. Flowers winter, to avoid cold air attack, so as not to produce freezing injury. Hot water can be used to sprinkle the ground, open the hot air machine and other heating.
