The Qijin Social creation Base (hereinafter referred to as the base) used to be the technician dormitory of the Navy's fourth Shipyard. In the past, it was surrounded by naval shipyards and families' villages, like a secret base isolated from the rest of the world. Sun Yat-sen University was invited by the Taiwan Sound and scene Association, and the team of USR-B "the City is a Story" planned to listen to the Qijin Peninsula. The city tells stories and "listens" to read Qijin's rich stories intertwined by different ethnic groups.

The social pioneering base of Sun Yat-sen University in Qijin used to be the technician dormitory of the Navy's fourth Shipyard, surrounded by shipyards and family villages, as if it were a secret base isolated from the rest of the world. Prelude to Tu Jianfeng Photography

We disembarked from Qijin Ferry Station, passed through the bustling vegetable market, walked from the "old road" of the local population, Zhongzhou No. 3 Road for 15 minutes, then turned into an alley, and then walked along the wall of painted community story. the base hidden in the alley is obscured by the houses and small parks on the street, and few people in Qijin even know this mysterious place.

The base preserved the original dormitory of the technicians in the former Navy's fourth Shipyard, with an old banyan tree blooming on each side of the entrance, and three old chimneys in the low house on the right, as if the smoke was still curling. There are four long houses in the park to form a courtyard, as well as a vanilla garden and Casuarina equisetifolia forest, with a total area of about one or two thousand ping. Outside the base, there is a small park that has been demolished and rebuilt by the family village. looking to one side of the alley, there is the "practice New Village", commonly known as "Da Chen Tsai". This "heterogeneous space" is about 15 to 20 minutes' walk from the ferry station and the sea area, but it is rare for tourists.

The base, formerly known as the dormitory for single craftsmen in Qijin Navy's fourth Shipyard, was originally a shipbuilding warehouse of the Japanese Navy before the second World War. After the war, it was independently built by single shipbuilders who came to Taiwan with the government of the country, and was rebuilt into a place to settle down. Although the mechanic left today, there was still the sound of metal knocking in the shipyard from time to time, closing his eyes and listening, and occasionally the sound of wood saws and the broadcast of instructions.

Community residents sat on the benches under the banyan tree in front of the door, chatting, speaking the Taizhou dialect of the Chen people, raising their heads and greeting us as if they were a prelude to an event, leading everyone into a real field of historical space and listening to the melody of misplaced overlap.

Led by Li Yizhi, a part-time lecturer in the Department of Sociology of Sun Yat-sen University, he started listening at the base. Ethnic memory of the remains of Tu Jianfeng's Photography

I asked my partners participating in the event if they had ever heard of the existence of the base, and the answer was obvious. Even if Qijin was here, they knew little about it. After all, before 2013, single technicians and honorable people living in dormitories moved out. Soon there was a scene of ruins full of smoke and grass, and even the small parks outside were still broken sources of iron fences, compared with the marine parks a few meters away. It exists as if it were a legacy.

In fact, in the early 1950s, the National Government restored the "No. 1 Naval Factory" evacuated from China to Taiwan to "Sandy Land" in the name of Qijin "Naval Shipyard No. 4 Shipyard", and successively planned dormitories for single craftsmen, and then built four dependent villages outside the dormitory. to provide different levels of staff and officers and soldiers to live, which brought a lot of population, in addition to the Japanese rule in the community. And the "Da Chen people" who retreated with the government in 1955, with more and more urban and rural immigrants and new residents moving close to the community, constitute a field of different cultural contact, with a variety of languages, diets, customs and habits.

The technician dormitory of Navy No. 4 Shipyard is like a perfect community, such as kitchen, dining room, Zhongshan room, shower, boiler room, and three long dormitories one by one, accommodating more than 100 people. In the later period, there are bungalows for technicians staying overtime, drying grounds, parking sheds and storage rooms, while crops such as banyan trees, Casuarina equisetifolia, mangoes and longan trees are planted in the open space, and three water towers and two wells are set up.

The central well where we stand has become a field for technicians to shower in the open air in summer. We knocked on the iron lid on the well, and there was a thick sound and echo, like a shipyard near the port, making a steady metal sound from time to time.

What's the taste of Qijin?

I invited the partners who participated in the tour to move slowly to the side of the dormitory kitchen, this
