Papaya has high medicinal value, but also has excellent edible and medicinal value. It is also cultivated as a courtyard ornamental plant in many areas, and the economic benefit is good. And with more and more people growing it, how does papaya grow seedlings? Come and have a look with the editor.

1. Seedling cultivation

First of all, the fully ripe fruit on the robust mother plant should be selected, the seeds should be cleaned after being taken out, dried in the shade and put into a bag with good air permeability and stored in a low temperature and dry environment. Autumn sowing can directly sow washed seeds in shallow trenches, while spring sowing requires sand storage. After sowing, the soil cover should not be too thick, and three times the seed diameter is advisable. Too thick soil cover may lead to slow emergence or even non-emergence of seeds. Watering the soil after sowing keeps the soil moist. When the seedlings grow to 3 true leaves, the seedlings grow to 6 true leaves, the fertilizer and water management can be increased, combined with fertilizer spraying and ground fertilization. In addition, the new technology of bud seedling transplanting popularized in recent years is generally welcomed. First, the seedlings are raised in the seedling field, and then transferred to the field when the seedlings grow to 3 leaves. This method of seedling emergence is neat, the lateral roots are developed, and the seedling rate is high.

2. Cultivation of grafted seedlings

The scion of the grafted seedling should collect the one-year-old branches with full growth and free of diseases and insect pests on the fine plant of the variety, and the scion used for grafting in spring should be picked during the dormant period in winter and buried in wet sand after picking, while the scion used in summer does not have so many problems, so it can be used as soon as it is picked, cut off the leaves, retain the petiole and wrap it in a wet cloth. Grafting in spring should be carried out 20 days before rootstock sprouting, and tongue grafting and split grafting can be used, while T-shaped bud grafting or embedded bud grafting with xylem can be used in summer and autumn, and the plant height of rootstock should be more than 50 cm. The survival rate should be cut off frequently after grafting, and those that did not survive should be repaired in time, unbound when the new shoots grow to 30 centimeters, and at the same time strengthen fertilizer and water, control weeds and insect pests, and come out of the nursery in the same year.

3. Cuttage seedling

Similar to grafting, the branches used for cutting should select 1-2-year-old branches with full tissue and full leaf buds on the excellent mother plant, cut them into 15-25 cm long, leave 2-3 nodes, cut flat at the top 1 cm from the top bud, cut the lower axillary buds into a slope, moisturize and store them. Greenwood cuttings can be picked in the growing season, harvest semi-lignified branches, cut into 15-20 cm, and remove the lower leaves. Cuttings should be carried out when the ground temperature reaches more than 15 degrees, and the summer is usually carried out from June to August, when proper shading and moisturizing are needed. The treatment of cuttings with rooting agent before cutting can obviously improve the survival rate.
