Fennel is no stranger to everyone. It is relatively common in our lives. It is also called cumin. It can also be used in medicine and cosmetics. Fennel is also a high-grade spice and health care product. It has a wide range of uses and a large market demand, so the planting prospect is excellent. Although there are many people planting now, the yield is not very ideal, so how should fennel be planted and managed to produce high yield? Let's take a look at it together with Xiaobian.

1. Land selection and fertilization

Fennel likes wet and cool environment, its seeds are still relatively small, so the ability to break ground is relatively poor, so when planting, we should choose sandy loam with flat terrain, deep soil layer, loose fertile soil and strong drainage capacity. Fertilization should be carried out at the same time after land selection, decomposed organic fertilizer or farm manure can be sprinkled on the soil, and then the soil should be deeply ploughed. In order to reduce the harm of diseases and insect pests in the planting process of fennel, weeding and disinfection work should be carried out, and some disinfection drugs can be sprinkled on the soil.

2. Preparation for sowing

When planting, we should first prepare improved seeds, select seeds with full particles, yellow and green color, no disease and no damage, and in order to improve germination rate and reduce pest damage, seed treatment can be done before sowing. Before sowing, you can choose a sunny day, expose the seeds to the sun for 1-2 days, pay attention to turning them in the sun to make them evenly heated, soak them in salt water for seed selection, take out the floating seeds, and then dress them with chemicals to eliminate germs on the surface. Before sowing, dress the seeds with zinc fertilizer, which is conducive to neat emergence.

3. Sowing management

Fennel likes cool weather, so sowing can be carried out when the soil temperature is lower than 5 degrees, and the most suitable time for its sowing is in mid-March of each year. The sowing method is also divided into two kinds, one is drilling, the other is hole sowing, sowing to control the density, the best distance between each plant is 15 cm, the depth is about 5 cm. In general, the choice is hole sowing, because it saves seeds, while drilling needs to be thinned in time after emergence.

4. Field management

After the seedlings emerge neatly, they should be cultivated and weeded in time to eliminate weeds in time and promote the early emergence of seedlings. Generally, the seedlings need to be cultivated and weeded 2-3 times, and the depth of each cultivation should be deepened. When the seedlings grow 3-4 true leaves, they should be fixed in time, and the plant spacing should be controlled at about 5 cm. At the same time, fertilizer and water management should be done well. Fennel is a drought-loving plant, so pay special attention to water, especially after rain. The humidity is high, which can easily cause a large number of plant deaths. Therefore, watering is generally selected in the evening or cloudy days, not watering before the rain, and timely drainage after the rain. The whole growing period generally needs topdressing 2-3 times. The first time before flowering, nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used; the second time at filling stage, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is mainly used; and the last time before harvest, boron fertilizer and calcium fertilizer should be sprayed to improve yield and quality.
