The Council of Agriculture has declared that pesticides will be halved within ten years since 106. in order to achieve this goal, we will promote "Integrated crop Pest Management" (hereinafter referred to as IPM) to farmers for drug reduction cultivation.

A total of 69 contestants came from the north, middle, south and east of the island. The jury spanned industry, government and consumer groups. Through written review and field visits, the first winners were selected: Qizhen Yuguo you Shuzhen, Sun many Zhang Jianyufeng and Sanguang Mi Co., Ltd.

IPM Tips: the concept of IPM for integrated crop pest management is "prevention is better than cure". It uses a variety of integrated control methods to control single or compound pests, such as pests, weeds and organisms. The principles are as follows: to control the population of pests below the level of economic harm, to adopt the prevention and control method of non-chemical agents as far as possible, and to adopt the option with the lowest harm to human body and environment when medication is necessary.

One of the winners of this award is Qizhen Yuguo you Shuzhen in Jiaoxi, Ilan. She took over the kumquat orchard with her husband Xu Xiqi five years ago. This is the third year of formal cultivation, and the orchard has obtained production and marketing resumes and other marks. The couple, who used to be engaged in interior design, found that the soil and grass looked bad when they took over, so they decided to farm with less chemicals and fertilizers.

By observing crop growth, soil testing, and consulting flowers to change the field, they found that as long as the drug was used accurately and for a long time, the quality and yield would not be lost to the habitual trade. "We haven't taken any medicine since July this year." You Shu-Chen pinches and calculates that they have their own way of adopting IPM with a non-agricultural background.

When the two men cleared the golden citrus garden at the end of March, they would cut off the branches and break them up, disinfect and then compost them. Later, according to the recorded disease and insect pests, they recommended the use of medicine for prevention, such as tea meal, Bordeaux, and so on. In July, when faced with the most distressing and venomous stink bugs, the couple used Dyson vacuum cleaners and nets for physical prevention and control. You Shu-Chen firmly said, "the one next door says we are crazy, but the whole fruit of kumquat is edible. At that time, medication will cause residues and must not be used!"

Hsu Hsi-chi recalls that his wife used to catch insects by hand, but she was accidentally sprayed with stink venom into her eyes, so he tried to use a dyson vacuum cleaner to get rid of bugs, but it was really effective. "No way, the wife is the most important." Xu said with a smile.

Grass cultivation in the garden, they think that rich grass can moisturize the soil, but also protect the fruit, "as long as many insects have something to eat, they will not harm the fruit." The couple only worried that the grass would grow too much and would mow the grass regularly. In order to save manpower, they also introduced a remote-controlled lawn mower.

At present, the couple's fruit pesticide residue test is zero, and they have been the champions of kumquat evaluation for two years in a row. some processing plants have also purchased small fruits and special products to make candied fruit, and some jam manufacturers have even directly contracted to one metric ton. When it comes to the next step, they want to make the orchard "public" in the future, turning it into an orchard for parent-child education, and continue to spread ideas to more people.
