When a society is rich to a certain extent, what else do people seek besides food and clothing? In the last stop of the "Vision in the Countryside" documentary series of foreign cases, we came to the San Francisco Bay area to see how we feel about our relationship with food in the richest region in the United States.

The San Francisco Bay area, referred to as the Bay area, is located in northern California, USA, which refers to the metropolitan area and rural areas with San Francisco Bay as the center. The famous Silicon Valley is here, Google headquarters and Facebook headquarters are here. It brings together a lot of scientific and technological talents and ideas to promote the global technology trend. at the same time, it is also the birthplace of the organic food movement in the United States.

During our half-month in the Bay area, when we talked about the organic food movement in the Bay area, we often heard a name from interviewees: "Alice Walters" (Alice Waters). Alice Walters Alice Waters, known as the "California Dietetic Godmother", opened a restaurant called Chez Panisse, which insists on using only local agricultural products and emphasizes the original flavor of food as early as the 1970s, spreading the concept of organic and healthy cooking across the United States and establishing the characteristics of California cuisine.

Although the shooting coincided with the promotion period of Ms. Walters' new book, we didn't have a chance to meet her, but when we visited the Culinary College of California, we saw that the concept of focusing on local ingredients had deepened to the cradle of California chefs: in addition to having to learn the characteristics of major cuisines, students had to spend six hours a week growing vegetables, weeding, harvesting crops and cooking them in the school garden. On weekends, we also need to go to the local farmers' market to sell the surplus agricultural products in the school farm.

In the Bay area, local fresh ingredients are simply cooked and the original taste of the food is preserved. "Origin to the table" is not an initiative, but a widely practiced concept.

Every mouthful of You are what you eat food defines who we are. The organic food movement not only affects the food people eat, but also asks, "what kind of life do I really want to live?"

Many people began to leave the city to reflect on the meaning of life, creating many stories of "giving up an annual salary of one million yuan to go back to work in their hometown" and "highly educated farmers." Some of these people who have emigrated back to the countryside from the city are tired of the city, want to live a freer life, spend more time with their families, while others feel the power of the land and see the possibility that their ideals can be realized in the countryside.

The owner and couple of Belden Barns Farm, in order to spend more time with their children, changed the career track and found the blue sea of entrepreneurship in the countryside. The Belden, who used to fly everywhere, with their children and dogs, slowed down to run Belden Barns Farm deep in the valley of Sonoma Sonoma. With the help of experts, they planted grapes to make wine, and invited Trotter and his wife, who graduated from Harvard, to open another farm on the farm to grow fruits and vegetables in a sustainable way.

After the two couples started farming, they were not cut off from the city; in fact, it was precisely because of their urban background.
