After ten years of hard work, Taiwan guava is finally expected to enter the United States! At the end of last month, Taiwan and the United States signed the "work Plan for the Import of fresh fruits of Guava from Taiwan to the United States," confirming that Taiwan guava can be imported into the United States in accordance with quarantine regulations as long as it has completed low-temperature insecticidal treatment. Chen Jizhong, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, said that Taiwan is the second country in the world after Mexico to sell guavas to the United States, and it is also the first in Asia. After opening up the US market, it will be better for overseas consumers to taste Taiwan's high-quality agricultural products.

Chen Yinggui, founder of Yingquan International, who has the title of "King of Fruit Export" and was optimistic about the export potential of guava as early as a decade ago, was the first person in China to send guava to Canada. He stressed that the opening of quarantine checkpoints is only the first step, and export crops have to be checked layer by layer from production management, packaging specifications to low-temperature preservation, so as to ensure that guavas crossing the ocean can still maintain a crisp taste.

At the same time, he also points out that guava has high nutritional value, rich in vitamin C and strong antioxidant capacity, and is the best "health-preserving sacred product" for European and American people who love barbecue. In the future, they not only want to let local Chinese eat guava and solve homesickness, but also have confidence that guava from Taiwan can appeal to Western markets.

As Taiwan is an epidemic area of oriental fruit flies, melon fruit flies, and pumpkin fruit flies, the United States is worried that the entry of Taiwan guava (guava) will have an impact on local crops and keep Taiwan guava out of the door. It was not until the Republic of China in 1998 that we developed a set of low-temperature insecticidal treatment to ensure that fruit flies could be effectively killed, and also provided production management and pest list data to the US side for long-term evaluation and review. People have also been sent to Taiwan to inspect our equipment and plant, constantly replenishing and explaining repeatedly in the process, and the two sides have finally reached a consensus on quarantine conditions recently.

Zou Huijuan, deputy director of the Bureau of Prevention and Quarantine, said that after the Animal and Plant Quarantine Bureau of the United States Department of Agriculture announced the quarantine regulations of Taiwan's guava on October 17, the two sides further communicated with the details of China's guava orchard production management, collection and packaging conditions, pest inspection and export container quarantine treatment at the 26th Taiwan-US Agricultural products Inspection and Quarantine Technical working Group meeting. And signed the work Plan for the Import of fresh Guava fruits from Taiwan to the United States on the 24th US Eastern time, establishing that Taiwan guava can be imported into the United States in accordance with quarantine regulations.

Weng Yizi, deputy head of the Plant Quarantine Section of the Bureau of Prevention and Quarantine, further explained that according to the contents of the work plan, the United States put forward three key requirements. First of all, in the part of the guava orchard, the orchard needs to be registered and approved by the Agriculture and Food Administration, that is, the fruit should be marked with traceability, and double bagging (Shuguo net and PE bag) should be carried out when the diameter of the fruit is less than 4 cm (about three weeks after flowering). In order to reduce fruit fly density and prevent insect pests such as shell insects and thrips, all field management, including drug use norms, should be recorded.

Secondly, the packaging field must also apply to the Prevention and Inspection Bureau and pass the examination. Guavas imported to the United States must be bagged, cleaned and packaged in an airtight factory. "it cannot be an open, open factory building, which must be airtight, such as sliding doors, in order to prevent insect pollution." The Bureau of Prevention and Quarantine will also sample the packaged guavas to ensure that no quarantine pests of concern to the United States are found.

At the final transport checkpoint, imported guavas need to be loaded into refrigerated containers approved by the United States Department of Agriculture, and quarantine personnel will insert temperature probes to supervise and issue export phytosanitary certificates, and the transportation process should be refrigerated at a low temperature of less than 1 ℃ for 17 days.
