Last Updated: 2024/10/07, On April 26, the Council of Agriculture announced in advance to amend the Quarantine regulations of the Republic of China on the Import of plants or Plant products, item 2, item 18 and its annex to the quarantine conditions for the conditional import of plants or plant products, and the addition of "quarantine conditions for the import of fresh fruits of mangosteen from Thailand".

On April 26, the Council of Agriculture announced an amendment to point 2, item 18 of the quarantine conditions for the conditional import of plants or plant products from the Republic of China and its annexes, adding the "quarantine conditions for the import of fresh fruits of mangosteen from Thailand." fresh mangosteen fruits that could not be imported in the past due to quarantine problems are expected to be imported again.

Mangosteen, which has the reputation of "tropical fruit queen", used to be a favorite of many people. since November 1, 1992, the prevention and inspection bureau has banned the import of mangosteen fresh fruit from Thailand on the grounds that Thailand is the epidemic area of "carambola solid rope" and "papaya fruit solid rope", and mangosteen is its host plant, but there is no restriction on frozen mangosteen. Zou Huijuan, deputy director of the Prevention and Inspection Bureau, said that the frozen mangosteen was frozen at-17.8 degrees, and there was no problem of fruit rope. Therefore, input is not prohibited.

Zou Huijuan said that Thailand applied to the ROC to resume the import of mangosteen fresh fruit in March 1993. until the completion of the risk assessment in 1991, Thailand also arranged on-the-spot verification in 106 years. After verification in July 106, it was determined that carambola fruit rope and papaya fruit rope could be killed by steaming treatment at 46 degrees Celsius for 58 minutes.

Outsiders question whether Taiwan has opened up to control the import of fruits because it wants to join CPTPP and other free trade organizations. Zou Huijuan clarified that when the Bureau of Prevention and Inspection carries out the risk assessment of the import of agricultural products, it is mainly based on scientific evidence and international norms. When Thailand applied to the ROC, the Bureau also made a risk assessment and sent staff to understand Thailand's process of handling mangosteen.

As for when the mangosteen fresh fruit can be imported again as soon as possible? Zou Huijuan said: on April 26, it has been announced that some proponents of the amendment can submit their opinions to the Prevention and Inspection Bureau within 60 days after the publication of the communique, and the Prevention and Inspection Bureau will collect the opinions of all parties, and you are welcome to make suggestions to the Prevention and Inspection Bureau, and the date of the formal announcement has not yet been determined.
