There are five kinds of pumpkins: Chinese pumpkin, western pumpkin (Indian pumpkin), American pumpkin, sunspot pumpkin and Mexican pumpkin. The black pumpkin native to South America gets its name because of the black seeds in the fruit, and its outer skin has a white-green pattern like watermelon, also known as "North Melon." Mexican pumpkins, which are used as edible vegetables in Central and South America, are relatively rare in Taiwan.
