How to maintain orchids on family balconies
In raising orchids on the family balcony, we should first consider whether the surrounding environment is polluted by dust and poisonous gases. Orchids are the most sensitive to toxic substances and will grow poorly once air pollution occurs. In the humid areas of southern China, orchids can be maintained outdoors in spring, summer and autumn. Flower racks should not be erected against the wall, it is best to protrude the balcony to make good ventilation and avoid the harm of radiant heat from the walls. A shade should be built on the flower shelf, the balcony should be shaded by no trees, and the southwest of the flower shelf should also be sheltered with bamboo curtains. Put asbestos tile on flower rack, put shallow basin to hold water, orchid put shallow basin shelf, summer asbestos tile and around, should often sprinkle water, so as to meet the habit of orchid like shade and wet environment, which is beneficial to its growth.
Orchids leave the house at the end of March, with soft sunshine in winter and spring, and can receive 1-2 hours of light in the morning and evening to promote growth and flower bud differentiation, and need shade at noon. The sun is strong in summer and needs shade all day. At night, the bamboo curtain in the southwest can be opened for ventilation. If you can use secret curtains in summer, it is better to use sparse curtains in spring and autumn.
Watering should be done with a fine-eyed spray can to wet the whole plant and do not pour into the basin. Tap water should be stored for several days before use. Watering orchids keeps the soil from getting too wet. The temperature in early spring is low, and the basin soil should be semi-dry, which can be watered once every 3 days. Early summer is the growing period of new roots and leaf buds, and the basin soil should be kept moist. Summer is the peak growing season of orchids, the temperature is high, the basin soil is easy to dry, watering once every morning, and water can be replenished in the evening if the basin soil is drier. After mid-September, it can be watered once every 2-3 days, and dry watering can be seen. The pot will be placed in an indoor ventilated place on rainy days to prevent waterlogging from rotting the roots.
The fertilization of orchids should be light rather than thick, less and not more. The fertilizer was stopped from May to the end of August, and topdressing was done once every 2 to 3 weeks. Any fertilizer must be fully ripened and diluted 20 times before it can be applied. Fertilization in the evening, the next morning to irrigate "backwater" to avoid fertilizer damage.
After the flower bud is unearthed, leave the strong bud to be weak, after blooming, the spring orchid stays for 7 days, the cymbidium let its inflorescence bloom to the top 1, do not wait for the flower to fade, namely all cut off. During the growing period, withered leaves, broken leaves and diseased leaves should be cut off at any time. Enter the house at the end of November to spend the winter, the basin soil should be dry, can be watered once every 10-15 days, and pay attention to ventilation, the room temperature is not less than 5 ℃.
