The planting area of bayberry tree in our country is still relatively large. Bayberry is a very popular fruit, not only can be eaten raw, but also can be made into a variety of non-staple foods, such as bayberry wine, dried bayberry, etc., its market is very large. When planting bayberry, we need to do a good job of management, among which flower thinning and fruit thinning cannot be ignored. So how do we thin flowers and fruits? Let's take a look at it together with Xiaobian below!

1. Why do you want to thin flowers and fruits

Myrica rubra is an evergreen fruiting tree, while evergreen fruit trees generally have the phenomenon of large and small years. Therefore, we should control the leaf-fruit ratio of bayberry trees, keep more fruits for strong trees and less fruits for weak trees, and carry out flower thinning and fruit thinning according to the growth of branches. If the flower thinning and fruit thinning were done properly, the fruit quality would be obviously enhanced, the ripening time would be earlier and the rotten fruit rate would be lower. Reasonable flower and fruit thinning can control the fruit bearing amount of each tree, regulate the relationship between reproductive growth and vegetative growth of bayberry, and achieve the goal of high yield and high quality year after year.

II. Flower and fruit thinning methods

1. Short fruiting branch thinning method

Cutting fruiting branches is a common method for thinning flowers and fruits of Myrica rubra. Usually in mid-February of each year. Observe the growth of the tree in the year, if the flower bud differentiation of the tree is more, then the fruiting branches of the whole tree should be evenly truncated by 1/5 or about 2/5. And then for some of the growth of thin, over-dense fruit branches, etc., but also to remove it in time. And each tree should be properly applied with urea and other quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer about 1kg, to promote the growth of vegetative branches.

2. Chemical thinning

Chemical flower thinning is mainly aimed at year-old trees and some plants with more fruits. After it enters its full bloom, use Shu 6 and other chemicals to thin flowers. Flower thinning can generally reach about 50%, and can also expand the fruit type, early fruit maturity time, improve fruit quality and so on. Moreover, the number of new shoots and the yield of the second year can also be significantly increased. For some trees that grow too weak and some trees with more flower buds, some gibberellin can be sprayed appropriately after fruit harvest, about once every ten days, spraying for about a month, which can increase the number of autumn shoots and also achieve the purpose of inhibiting flower bud formation.

3. Artificial fruit thinning

Artificial fruit thinning is the most effective way to thin flowers and fruits, prevent big and small years and other phenomena. However, artificial thinning fruit, the cost of manpower is relatively large, so it is not applicable to the scale of bayberry garden. Artificial fruit thinning needs about 3 times, the first time is carried out three weeks after bayberry enters full bloom, mainly dense fruit and small inferior fruit. Then in the fruit grow to about the size of table tennis when the second time, each fruit branch can be left about one fruit. Finally, fruit thinning can also be carried out once in about one and a half months at full bloom, with 3 fruits retained on long fruit branches, 2 fruits retained on medium fruit branches and 1 fruit retained on short fruit branches.

The above is a simple introduction to the technology of waxberry thinning flowers and fruits. Today's introduction is here, this article is for reference only, I hope to help everyone oh!
