The area of pig farming in China is very large, and its breeding history is also very long. When raising pigs, many pig farmers will find that there is a phenomenon that newborn piglets will not be fed after birth. It seriously affected the growth of piglets, resulting in a very low survival rate of piglets. So what is the reason why newborn piglets don't breast-feed? What should we do with it? The following editor will give you a brief introduction, let's have a look!

1. Symptoms of not breast-feeding

When newborn piglets are ready three days after birth, the phenomenon of not feeding will begin to appear. At first, we can see that piglets want to breast-feed but are unable to suck, or do not want to suck breast milk, do not fit in, and lie alone. Some piglets will appear the phenomenon of limb weakness, walking aimlessly. The skin is pale and weak, the body surface is also very cold, the body temperature drops, the stress response to external factors is slow, or basically no. In the end, when it is serious, there will be convulsions and even death.

2. The reason for not breastfeeding

There are many reasons for not feeding piglets, the most important of which is that the blood sugar of piglets is low, which affects the vitality of piglets and leads to unwillingness to eat. And it will also be affected by diseases, such as mycotoxins, pseudorabies and other germs that cause piglets to get sick, and they will not be breast-fed. Then, because of sows, many sows hide their nipples because of insufficient lactation or mastitis, resulting in no milk for piglets. Or the newborn sows are unable to adapt and do not want to let the piglets breast-feed.

3. How to deal with it

For piglets that are not breast-fed for their own reasons, if the symptoms are mild and can swallow. Then we have to use a syringe with a hose. Give the piglets about 15% glucose water, keep the dosage at about 15ml each time, and let them take it every 3 hours. If the symptoms are serious and can no longer be swallowed, then the piglets should be injected with the same proportion and amount of glucose water every five hours until the symptoms are relieved and normal self-feeding can be done.

4. Preventive measures

The phenomenon of hypoglycemia in newborn piglets is generally caused by insufficient breast milk intake in piglets. Therefore, when we breed, we should pay attention to the management of sows in the late pregnancy to ensure that sows have sufficient breast milk after production. And during the lactation period, we should also strengthen the management to ensure that every piglet can have enough to eat. Then the environment should be controlled and the temperature should be kept at about 24 degrees. If piglets get sick, then glucose should be supplied in time to prevent the disease from spreading.
