As one of the main food crops in our country, the annual consumption of corn in our country is very large. Also has a large planting area, when planting corn, let corn self-pollination, then the seed setting rate is generally not very ideal. Therefore, artificial pollination is an indispensable technique for planting corn. So how should corn be artificially pollinated? The following editor has brought you the method of artificial pollination of corn, let's have a look!

1. Pollination period

When carrying out artificial pollination, we should first determine the main period of artificial pollination of corn. It is usually done when the female ear of corn enters the silking stage. Before artificial pollination, we should prepare the pollinator and pollinator. We can make both of these two kinds of things in our daily life, for example, we can use newspapers to make powder extractors, and clean bottles can be used as pollinators. In order to improve the pollination rate, when pollinating, we should cut off the excessive filaments on the ear in time and keep about 3 cm. If the bracts of the female ear are too long, they should also be cut off in time to avoid affecting pollination.

2. Pollen collection

After we have made the preparations, we will begin to collect powder. First of all, we should put the female ear into the powder collector, and then gently shake to let the pollen fall into the powder collector, then the pollen will be collected successfully. According to the weather to control the powder collection time, if it is a sunny day, it should be carried out around 8: 00 to 9: 00 in the morning. Don't be too early, if it is too early, the humidity in the field is high and the pollen is easy to clump. If it is a cloudy and rainy day, the powder should not be taken until the ear of the flower is dry. After the pollen is collected, the powder sac, glume and other sundries in the pollen should be removed with a sieve, and then transferred to the pollinator to prepare for pollination.

3. Pollination method

Then pollination will begin, and pollination should also be carried out after the dew has dried in the morning. Determine the pollination time according to the actual situation, gently shake the pollinator to the spike with the filaments cut off, and the distance is controlled at about 3cm. Should pay attention to the pollinator do not touch the filament, to avoid water leading to pollen clumps, affecting pollination. For the female ear, we should pollinate about three times, and once each at the early and late stage of silking, in order to ensure the success rate of pollination. About 3 days after pollination, if the pollination is successful, the filaments of the female ear will generally wither, and those without success will continue to grow, so we should pay attention to the supplementary work.

4. Points for attention

About a week after the emasculation of corn, the female ear will begin to spin silk, and the time will be about a week. However, pollination should be carried out within 3 days after silking, when the seed setting rate is the highest. Be careful not to be too early when pollinating to avoid dew. Then it is not suitable to pollinate in 35 degrees weather, and the pollination rate will decrease as a result. Pollination should be mainly on-the-spot pollination, one-time pollination should not be too much, otherwise it will easily lead to the loss of pollen activity and reduce the pollination rate.

The above is a brief introduction to the method of artificial pollination of corn. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
