How to pick up the white orchid?
Docking time
White orchid cuttings are not easy to survive and are generally propagated by grafting. Those who hear of a warm room can do it all the year round; those who do not have a warm room can do it from April to September (the Yangtze River Basin).
Selection and cultivation of rootstocks
Yellow orchid or purple magnolia with a thickness of more than 5 mm can be used as rootstock. Cultivate it in a bowl for a period of time before grafting, and make sure it grows normally before it can be grafted. This proves the survival rate of grafting.
Selection of scion
Select the branches from the white orchid mother plant for more than one year, and select the middle and lower branches which are convenient for grafting to affect the beautiful shape of the original plant as far as possible.
Operation method
① first chose a smooth place at the base of the rootstock or near the basin soil, wiped off sediment and other sundries with a wet cloth, and cut a rectangular incision of 1.5cm long and 3mm wide on the rootstock with a knife, which should be smooth and lint-free.
② selects a smooth part of the branch to cut a rectangular cut the same size as the rootstock.
③ aligns the cut of the branch with that of the rootstock, grasps the joint with his hand, puts a film across the top of the cut, and then wraps the incision with plastic film, loosely and moderately to prevent Rain Water from soaking in to affect the healing of the incision.
Management after grafting
Pay attention to water and fertilizer management, in addition to keeping the basin soil moist in summer, foliar spraying should be carried out once or twice a day and put in a semi-shady place. Management should be careful, do not collide or break the scion. Cut off the scion of Magnolia for one and a half to two months after grafting and maintain it for a period of time.
After. The top of the rootstock was cut off twice and a new magnolia was formed.
