Recently, at the first national promotion meeting on strains, bacterial requirements and inputs held in Beijing, representatives from the bacteria industry reached a consensus on strain breeding: the breeding environment of edible fungi is chaotic and there is an urgent need to strictly regulate germplasm resources management and variety protection.

It is reported that at present, the total annual output of edible fungi in China has reached 10.38 million tons. However, due to the different distribution of products in different places, the rapid and stable development of edible mushroom industry in China has been restricted to varying degrees. How to standardize breeding and protect the legitimate rights and interests of variety owners has become a common concern of scholars and industry representatives. Zhang Jinxia, a researcher at the Institute of soil and Fertilizer of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that most of the bacteria in China lack independent intellectual property rights, and new varieties with independent intellectual property rights are facing loss. Due to the poor foundation, insufficient investment and lack of germplasm resources, the stamina of breeding is obviously insufficient. At the same time, the phenomenon of mixed bacteria, random naming and synonym is serious. The professional quality of some strain enterprises is poor, the production facilities are too simple, and the quality of bacteria is generally low. However, the technical system of strain quality evaluation is still blank, and there are deficiencies and vacuum areas in the management department in law enforcement and supervision, which have resulted in the extensive use of non-variety bacteria, aging, degradation and fake and shoddy bacteria flooding the market, harming the interests of enterprises and bacterial farmers.

Therefore, experts suggest that the state should carry out unified management of germplasm resources of bacteria, protect the interests of breeders, strengthen the protection of variety rights, encourage variety identification, and at the same time implement a market access system for strain production to ensure the standardization of the breeding process from the system and source.

It is understood that during the meeting, more than 30 bacteria enterprises and brand products were displayed, building a platform for exchange and cooperation for edible mushroom production base cities (counties), enterprises and strain supply enterprises.
