Let's go! To find the diversity of the countryside together-the wish of the 22nd Yellow Butterfly Festival
0 sharing and exploration: from forest conservation to the restoration of farmland ecosystem
Since the 1960s, agricultural production has pursued efficiency, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the rezoning of agricultural land has led to the straightening of farmland, agricultural roads, and waterways, resulting in the almost extinction of common species in farmland ecosystems in the past. How the ecological conservation work in the Yellow Butterfly Valley extends to the Meinung Plain is also an issue of concern.
Five years ago, the 19th Yellow Butterfly Festival cooperated with three elementary schools in the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the Meinong River to set up natural and cultural societies, such as Yongquan, to gradually launch various conservation programs through the cultivation of ecological seeds for children. solid cultural foundation of community ecology. At that time, a series of developments with the theme of "Li Shan" indirectly touched the Kaohsiung Municipal Bureau of Agriculture to conduct a survey of farmland ecosystems in Meinung, hoping to extend the front of habitat conservation from the forest area to the farmland area.
After a year-long solid investigation and discussion of topics, Meinung's four seasons of age farming, common or special species, are all gathered in the volume "ploughing and Reading thick Fields." During the investigation period, there was also an incident of renovation of the Longbelye Creek Water Conservation Project. As there are still intact riparian forests on both sides of the Yexi, which is the habitat of rare species such as ridges, amber dragonflies and other rare species, and is also a place for outdoor teaching of nearby school children, after coordination and communication, the Bureau of soil and Water Conservation has been urged to revise the project to mitigate the ecological impact, and it has also prompted the primary school to set up the "Yongquan Stream Survey Society" to pay continuous attention to the wild stream.
Explore the wild stream and observe the native Macrobrachium rosenbergii, rice shrimp, Taiwan crayfish, mackerel, etc., so as to strengthen the conservation genes of rural children.
Last year, the Bureau of Agriculture continued the program to guide farmers in implementing eco-friendly agricultural laws in Mount Meinong, helping farmers who identify with friendly farming to obtain the "Green Protection Mark." Thanks to the efforts of the tutoring team, eight farmers have been assisted to pass the certification of the Green Protection Mark so far. Including: Yuanmeng Garden natural ecological vegetable and orchard, my sunken tea garden, sure enough Red Farm, Pure Heart farming Garden, concentric Garden, friendly farmland, a piece of field, and Dragon belly Primary School.
In order to exchange more methods of biological control, the bird laboratory of Professor Sun Yuan-hsun of the University of screen Science and Technology was also invited to provide teaching and observation on the practice of raptor perching, to attract black-winged kites to stay at a fixed point, to replace rat poison with biological control, and to reduce the secondary poisoning of raptors. Subsequently, the Kaohsiung Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau further invested in setting up raptor habitats in seven green farmland protection areas. In order to retrieve the water pheasants commonly seen in rural areas in the past, Liu Xiaozhan and Huang Shu-mei rented a field next to Meinong Lake to create a habitat for Lingbo fairies and add ecological highlights to Meinong Lake, while water pheasants pecking insects in the wild lotus field, whether it can become a conservation badge of wild lotus remains to be further observed.
Water pheasants love to eat insects in wild lotus fields. How to make water pheasants return to Meinong Lake and preserve a hope of restoration for Meinong farmland ecosystem is the goal of future efforts. Prelude: yellow Butterfly Festival and Biodiversity
In response to the conservation trend of "Biodiversity mainstreaming" (CBD COP14), we should break away from the traditional conservation methods of species and habitats, and pay more attention to the connection between local culture and society. After the first preparatory discussion of the Yellow Butterfly Festival this year, it was decided to invite Wang Cheng, secretary general of the Taiwan Wild Hope Natural Communication Society, which focuses on conservation and communication, and Dr. Dong Jingsheng, who is promoting the "Ark Project of the National Botanical Garden." share new views on biodiversity as a reference for Meinung's conservation action plan.
The organization of the biodiversity activities of the Yellow Butterfly Festival can be traced back to the 17th Yellow Butterfly Festival "Yellow Butterfly Valley Ecological Diversity Forum". On World Environment Day, conservation partners who had conducted research on bats, fish, frogs, trees and birds in the Yellow Butterfly Valley were invited to share the findings with the public. Since then, there have been annual "biodiversity" themed activities, whether indoor lectures, outdoor visits, ecological experiences, etc., which are an important part of the public ecological education of the Yellow Butterfly Festival.
For this year's biodiversity theme activities, a total of five lectures have been planned, such as "participatory national plant conservation", "experience sharing in habitat management of pheasants in Meinong Lake", "Rural Life Notes: daily Diversity in Meinung". And four Lishan experience activities, such as "Brook Survey", "Moth Night View" and other activities, as a series of thematic activities such as forest concerts.
Tacit understanding: the stage for weaving the diversity of Li Mountain
In view of the fact that the conservation of biodiversity needs more input from the public, after 24 years of the Yellow Butterfly Festival in Meinung, this year's opening event is called "set out on the diversity of Lishan Mountain" and takes "environmental art" as the method. Artists, nature guides, ecological researchers, environmental educators, friendly farmers and other different roles are invited to guide the interaction between the public and the land by using the stage of nature. Form all kinds of collective creation of "paying homage to the land", so that ecological consciousness can be promoted more universally and continuously.
In the main vision part, Lin Yanling, an artist who has lived in Meinong for ten years, is invited to paint the Silent Forest, in which creatures hidden in the forest remind people that they don't see it, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. through the Silent Forest, the artist invites everyone to put down the noise and meditate: "close your eyes and feel the smell of the forest." Imagine insects, fish, birds and beasts gazing at each other in the depths of the forest. . "
What do you see in the Silent Forest?
Lin Yanling also weaves the flat "tacit Forest" into a three-dimensional "We weave a Dream on the Tree" by the way that the people collectively participate in the "scenery-weaving workshop." Through blindfolded adventures and camera games, we will experience the feeling in nature, show it in the picture through pen and paper, and further find out the theme you want to express under the name of "natural name". Then along the streams, secondary forests, orchards, tropical tree orchards and other different areas in the Yellow Butterfly Valley, looking for materials such as kudzu, grape, sea sand, passion fruit, grapefruit, golden thread vine, etc., to gradually weave the images in the hearts of the participating members: butterflies, hundred-step snakes, owls, fish, and so on, and finally jointly installed in the mother forest theater, opening the prelude to the Yellow Butterfly ceremony.
