In late autumn, the weather gets cooler in the morning and evening, the temperature drops, and the sunshine time is getting shorter.

The physiological activities of flowers are also transferred from the prosperous period to the gentle period or hibernating period, which should be maintained according to the characteristics. How to maintain family flowers has become a difficult problem for amateur flower growers. I would like to share with you some views on how to maintain family flowers in late autumn.

Warm flowers and trees such as cold-proof and supporting mulberry, poinsettia, begonia, jasmine and tortoise back bamboo should be moved indoors when the temperature is 10 ℃; hanging orchids, asparagus, goose palm wood and rubber trees should also be moved indoors when the temperature is as low as 5 ℃; the vast majority of flowers should enter the room before Frosts Descent. Potted flowers should pay attention to ventilation indoors, and the doors and windows can be opened for ventilation and heat dissipation when the temperature is high at noon. Flowers such as jasmine, Jiuli incense, rhododendron, gentleman orchid, cyclamen, crab claw orchid and other flowers should be placed in a sunny place to fully receive light, so that the leaves can better carry out photosynthesis and provide timely nutrition so that they can survive the winter safely.

Watering the banyan tree, rubber tree, goose palm wood, Brazilian wood, rich tree, Milan, jasmine, wax plum, plum blossom, camellia, tea plum and other ornamental plants in the watering balcony and Ming hall should control watering and reduce watering times and water. For wax plum, plum blossom and camellia that blossom in winter and early spring, watering should be controlled and more water should be sprayed to facilitate the formation of its bud. The suitable watering time is from 10:00 to 15:00. Potted foliage plants such as tortoise-backed bamboo, spring feather, plantain, bird's nest fern, Anthurium andraeanum, taro, green apple, and so on, should be sprayed and watered as a supplement to keep the potted soil dry.

Fertilizing Cymbidium, calla lilies, Cymbidium, pineapple, etc., can be irrigated with a mixture of 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 0.1% urea; daidai, kumquat, pyracantha, etc., can be irrigated with a small amount of low-concentration available phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; Milan, Zhulan, jasmine, etc., can also be applied once dilute phosphate and potassium fertilizer to facilitate its smooth winter. For most foliage plants, stop applying nitrogen fertilizer and properly apply some low concentration potassium fertilizer, which can increase the cold resistance of flowers.

If the bonsai and potted flowers are trimmed and moved into the room, the withered branches, overdense branches, disease and insect branches, thin branches, etc., should be cut off; the long branches can be shrunk in strength; the bonsai bindings that have been modeled for 1 ~ 2 years can be removed, or they can be re-tied after they are untied, so as to prevent them from being tied up in a fixed position for a long time, injuring the branch cambium and causing branches and leaves to die. The stump bonsai placed on the balcony, such as hammer elm, magpie plum, triangular maple, banyan tree, Luohan pine, cypress, cypress, etc., must be pruned as necessary. Jasmine, crape myrtle, pomegranate, etc., can be pruned in late autumn, reduce plant nutrient consumption in winter, promote potted flowers to store more nutrients, and make more flowers bloom in the coming year.

Late autumn is still a serious season for diseases and insect pests, and flowers and trees are vulnerable to shell insects, red spiders, aphids, whitefly and other pests. Diseases include leaf spot, stem rot and so on. Before potted flowers enter the house, these diseases and insect pests must be treated thoroughly and never let them enter the house to harm flowers and trees.

Leaving seeds in the north, many perennial flowers begin to turn yellow in this season, ready to go dormant in winter, such as hairpins, canna, dahlias, Xiaoli and so on. The roots of these plants should be kept in flowerpots to let them dormant. After the full bloom, the chrysanthemum will also shed the yellow leaves. Now, you should cut off the branches and keep the old roots to protect the species. Gourd, towel gourd, grass jasmine and other seeds have matured, and the seeds should be collected and preserved for sowing in the coming year.
