Be careful when buying wet rice noodle products in the traditional market in summer! From March to April this year, the Consumer Culture and Education Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Consumer Foundation) sampled 80 pieces of rice noodle products in the traditional markets of Shuangbei, Taichung, Nantou, Tainan and Kaohsiung, and released the test results today (25). 11 samples failed in preservatives, compared with 6.5% in previous years, and the failure rate was as high as 13.75%. It shows that the behavior of adding preservatives to rice noodle products needs to be improved.

Vendors belong to the food industry regulated by the Food Safety Law, and the Food and Drug Administration needs to keep watch.

Xu Zeyu, publisher of the consumer report magazine, said that according to Article 18 of the Food Safety Law, food additives must comply with the law, and if there is a violation, the competent authorities can ask the food industry to suspend operations, stop the sale and seal up the ingredients. If the competent authority asks the food manufacturer to suspend operations and stop the sale, and there is no improvement during the period, the fine will be 3-3 million suspended according to the violation. If the circumstances are serious, the competent authority may also order it to suspend business or suspend business for a period of time, cancel the registration of the company or factory or the registration of the food industry, and the operator whose registration has been cancelled shall not reapply within one year.

The subjects of this survey are vendors in traditional markets on a small scale, but they still belong to food manufacturers in the Food Safety Law. The test results are sent to the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Food and Drug Administration will notify the health bureaus of local county governments to conduct a re-inspection. Food manufacturers, no matter how large or small, should not take any chances. The Consumer Foundation will guard consumers at any time, and they should not be treated differently on a scale.

Consumer Foundation: remind operators to be responsible and call on the government to inspect

Lei Lifen, chairman of the Consumer Foundation, said that all packaged products should be marked with ingredients. This random check on bulk products in the traditional market is mostly on a small scale, and the Consumer Foundation does not want a huge penalty to slow down the pressure of the operators. Call the violators in advance and ask if they know the source of the food. Some of these 11 violators are hand-made, partly because the materials are feasible, and the circumstances of the violations will be more significant. The other part is to buy off-the-shelf materials, reminding that the purchase of off-the-shelf materials must find out the upstream information, should be responsible for selling their own products, and remind the government that it should continue to conduct active inspections so as to prevent businesses from slacking off.
