How to pick and store flower seeds

First of all, it is necessary to master the maturity and maturity of the seeds. Even if it is the same flower or tree, the seeds will not ripen at the same time, and the seeds will be harvested as they are ripe, lest the fallen birds will peck at them in the wind, or the seeds will be moldy and thoroughly scattered in overcast and rainy days. Seeds that bloom early or mature early should be chosen to stay. Such seeds will germinate early and blossom early in the coming year. If it is found that there is a variation in flowers or color, it should be taken in and planted separately, so that new varieties may be bred.

Secondly, the method of harvesting varies with different kinds of flowers. Some can pick the whole flower and dry it, such as cockscomb, a bunch of red flowers, etc.; some berries can knead the fruit, put it in a basin, wash off the pulp, clear the seeds, and then dry the seeds, such as honeysuckle eggplant, coral beans, etc. There are also some seeds, after the fruit is ripe, the pericarp cracked and the seeds are lost, which should be picked in time when the fruit changes from green to yellow-brown, such as crape myrtle and fairy flowers; and some bulbs, such as dahlia, canna, taro, etc., dig out the bulbs in time before frosting to avoid freezing damage, and put the bulbs in sand storage in the house after drying.

The commonly used collection methods of flower seeds are dry storage, sand storage, water storage and so on.

Dry hide. Most flower seeds can be collected in this way. First dry the seeds, remove impurities, and put them into bags sewn with gauze, such as a string of red and cockscomb flowers, etc., do not put them into glass bottles or plastic bags that are impervious to air and affect the breathing of seeds. You can hang the seed bag in a cool and ventilated place and keep the room temperature at 5 ℃ 10 min. Shazang puts the harvested peony and peony seeds into the low temperature and wet sand of about 5 ℃. Under natural conditions, this kind of seeds have a period of dormancy and then ripen after dormancy. Take it out one month before sowing and sow in spring.

Mizo. Some seeds should be soaked in water after harvest, such as water lilies. The water temperature is about 5 ℃. When the seed is below 0 ℃, the seeds will suffer frost injury and affect sprouting.

All kinds of seeds should not be exposed to the sun, but should be dried, otherwise their germination rate will be affected. After drying, put the seeds in a cool and ventilated place, pay attention to moistureproof, anti-smoking, anti-rodent. (source: agricultural Expo Network)
