Different kinds of flowers have different seed germination periods because of their different seed coat structure and physiological mechanism. Such as a string of red, chrysanthemum, impatiens and so on, as long as sowing at the right time, seedlings can emerge quickly. Some flower seeds take months or even years to germinate, so artificial germination must be carried out to shorten the dormancy period of the seeds.

1. Water immersion treatment for flower seeds with short dormancy period and easy germination, such as Bauhinia, Pearl Plum, Golden Ribbon, etc., soak the seeds in 40 ℃ warm water for 1-2 days, and then sow the seeds directly. Torch tree and other seeds, first soaked in 90 ℃ of water, and then let it cool naturally for 24 hours, so that the seed coat softened and absorbed water before it can germinate. However, it should be noted that when the seeds are treated by water immersion, the water should be changed frequently, and the time when the water temperature is higher than 60 ℃ should not exceed. After 1 hour, the water temperature should be lowered, which is generally below 40 ℃, otherwise the seed embryo is easy to die.

2. Low temperature treatment of some flower seeds, such as Rosa roxburghii, Chimonanthus roxburghii, Forsythia suspensa, cloves and some herbaceous flowers sown in autumn, need to go through a certain period of low temperature (O ℃ ~ 10 ℃) treatment in order to promote post-ripening, break the dormancy of seed embryos and germinate. Methods: mix the seeds with sand with 60% humidity, then put them in a plastic bag, tie the mouth tightly, put them in a flowerpot, and then bury them in an open field 40 cm to 60 cm deep. The seeds can also be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 3 ℃ ~ 5 ℃ for 60-90 days, and sown in spring. It can also be sown in autumn so that the seeds can be naturally frozen outdoors in winter and germinated and unearthed the following spring.

3. Some flower seeds, such as tassel, peony and peony, have the habit of double dormancy of radicle and Hypocotyl, that is, the radicle needs to go through a high temperature of 25 ℃ ~ 32 ℃ for 1 ~ 2 months or more to break dormancy, while the Hypocotyl needs 1 ~ 3 months at the temperature of 3 ℃ ~ 5 ℃ to break dormancy. For this kind of seeds, they must be mixed with wet sand before sowing, and then transferred to low temperature after a certain period of high temperature. after variable temperature treatment, spring sowing can germinate quickly. However, attention must be paid to ensure the time of high temperature period and freezing period, otherwise it is still difficult for seeds to germinate after sowing. (Li Wenjuan)
