Citrus is a common fruit, because the market demand is relatively large, so the planting area in our country is also relatively large. When planting citrus trees, we must do a good job in management. Among them, especially summer shearing, doing a good job of summer shearing can improve the permeability of citrus trees and promote flowering and fruiting, so how to go to summer shearing? The following editor brings you the technology of summer pruning of citrus trees. Let's have a look!

1. Pruning young trees in summer

Some early summer shoots germinate in summer and are at the time of physiological fruit drop. At this time, in order to protect the fruit, we should not only do a good job in water and fertilizer work, but also pay attention to the timely removal of early summer shoots. When the tip grows to about 5 cm in early summer, erase it all, about once in 5 days, until the end of May. If the tree does not hang much fruit, then when the summer shoot germinates to about 3 cm at the end of May, the bud will be thinned according to the principle of three-by-one. Then when it grows to 30cm or so, do a good job of hitting the top and picking the heart. If there are many fruits, the shoot should be released once from July to August, and a short cut should be carried out 2-3 weeks before the autumn shoot is released.

2. Summer shears of rich trees

The main purpose of summer pruning of rich trees is to promote the growth of autumn shoots, enhance the growth ability of branches and promote the recovery of tree potential. If the citrus tree is strong, it should be pruned until July. Timely remove the branches of the middle and lower part of the citrus tree, such as overgrowth and density, falling flowers and fruits, entanglement overlap, diseases and insect pests and so on. Then the waste and weak branches with verrucous parts at the top of the branches were cut short. The middle and upper branches outside the crown are thinned, the stump is kept at about 10 cm, and the diameter of the cut is kept at 1 cm.

3. Summer shearing of young trees

From May to July, wipe off the summer shoots every 5 days or so. Avoid excessive growth of summer shoots to snatch the nutrition of fruit setting and reduce the fruit setting rate. Then, in mid-July, the autumn shoot work will be carried out. From May to June, we should make a ring cutting around the basic 6cm of the main branch of the plant to cut off the epidermis of the branch, but we should be careful not to hurt the xylem, which can reduce the physiological fruit drop objects. Then in the middle and late July, the inner branches should be thinned in time, and the weak branches and old branches should be cut short. After the autumn shoot is ripe, twist it properly.

4. Summer shearing of freeze-damaged trees

After the freezing injury of citrus trees, there will be some bad phenomena, such as withered leaves, dry branches and so on. It should be trimmed not only in spring but also in summer. If the freezing injury is not serious, then the summer shoot should be erased in May-July, and then appropriate fertilization, hormone spraying. The weak branches in the tree should be truncated properly for the purpose of cultivating fruiting branches. If the freezing injury is serious, then 5 strong shoots from different places should be selected as reserve branches when the spring shoot grows to about 12 cm. When the tip of each branch grows to about 28 cm, a short cut is carried out to promote the restoration of the tree.

The above is a brief introduction to summer pruning techniques for citrus trees. Summer pruning of citrus trees is very important, which directly affects the yield and quality of citrus, so we must pay more attention to it. That's all for today's introduction.
