What are the methods of fertilizing orchids and how to plant orchids in pots?
After the flowerpot, culture soil (or cultivation medium) and orchid seedlings are ready, they can be planted in pots. The cultivation procedures are as follows:
First of all, it is necessary to pad the basin, the principle is that the basin should be empty to facilitate drainage, which is conducive to the growth and development of fleshy roots. Usually choose 3 to 5 thin tiles or broken pot fragments to cover the bottom hole of the pot. Tiles should be concave face down, convex face up, cross overlay, cover the bottom of the whole hole, and have holes in each other to facilitate smooth drainage. After the tile is covered, it is covered with a layer of drainage, usually with chestnut charcoal, and the size of the visible flowerpot is between one or two centimeters and five or six centimeters. First spread the large particles on the bottom of the basin, covered with fine particles. In addition to chestnut charcoal, you can also choose walnut shell, chestnut shell, peanut shell, unrotten leaves and fern roots screened from rotten leaf soil, as well as volcanic stone, broken bricks, plastic fragments and so on. The height of the cushion drainage layer can reach the basin height of 1/4~l/3.
After the basin cushion is finished, a small amount of shovel is shoveled into a layer of sterilized culture soil to cover the drainage layer. Then hold the pseudobulb of the orchid plant in the left hand and let the root system fully stretch in the basin. The height of the pseudobulb top is about 1~2cm from the mouth of the basin. Hold a small shovel in your right hand and gradually fill the training soil into the basin. When the filling basin is 3 times 4 high, stick your right finger into the root system and shove the soldier into the gap between the root and the root. Then continue to add soil to the basin mouth 1cm. Lift the strain up slightly with the left hand and shake the flowerpot with the right hand so that the soil can fully enter the gap between the roots and be compacted. The center of the soil surface in the basin is slightly higher, and around it is slightly lower than the 1~2cm on the edge of the basin, showing the shape of steamed bread. The soil surface can be covered with a layer of water moss, stone grains or fern roots to avoid watering or splashing the soil after being drenched in the rain and polluting the leaves. In this way, the potting process is completed.
Soak the orchid in the bucket, the water surface in the bucket is slightly higher than the basin surface, and let the water slowly seep into the basin from the bottom hole until the basin cover is completely soaked. Then take out the orchid basin, dry the stagnant water in the basin, spray the whole orchid basin and orchid plant with a spray can, spray and wash the dust on the leaf surface and the soil on the edge of the basin mouth.
Put the newly planted orchid pot in the shade for 1-2 weeks, and then put it on the prepared flower rack for culture.
When potting, the whole cluster of orchid plants should be placed in the center of the basin so that there is enough space between the new buds (new pseudobulbs) and the edge of the basin. That is, the so-called "leader" direction of the orchid plant should leave room for new buds to sprout. If a number of orchid plants are planted in a basin, the distance between the orchids should be maintained and the new buds should face the edge of the basin.
