Many pot friends like to raise lotus, but generally use lotus pond mud as a substrate, and then inject clean water to raise it. The lotus usually keeps vigorous growth and flowering in the environment where pond mud and water coexist, and the conservation and management process is also very simple. Even if it is cultivated roughly in a short period of time, it will not appear bad conditions. So, can the lotus be raised without soil?

In fact, the lotus could also be grown without soil, but it needed to meet a few conditions. If water is simply used to raise the lotus without any substrate, the root of the lotus will not be fixed, and the whole plant will float in the water and wander around, just like a wandering child without a home. It has no one to rely on and naturally does not grow well.

First of all, we need to prepare a flowerpot of the right size, original but do not use transparent glass pots, because the roots of the lotus are afraid of light, otherwise it will not grow well. It is generally recommended to use a pottery basin that cannot transmit light through the basin wall, and do not have a water outlet at the bottom to avoid water flowing out from the bottom. Even if the basin bottom has holes, it should be blocked tightly to avoid running water.

Secondly, the amount of water in our basin should be appropriate, and the water depth should be controlled well. It is appropriate to just touch the bottom of the lotus root but keep the leaves just consistent with the water surface. In addition, in the early stage of pot cultivation, water should be changed regularly and frequently. Change water once a week as much as possible. After about three weeks of continuous cultivation, wait until the bowl lotus has a certain water purification ability and then reduce the frequency of water change appropriately, but add water appropriately according to the growth of the bowl lotus to ensure that it can support its stems and leaves.

Third, although we do not use pond mud at the bottom of the basin, in order to prevent plants from floating and wandering around in the basin, it is recommended to spread a layer of perlite at the bottom of the basin, or put some pebbles in. The main purpose of this is to fix the root of the lotus, avoid it wandering around, and at the same time better promote the growth of the lotus. And put some pearlite or pebbles in the bottom of the pot, can also play a certain role in embellishment, can improve the ornamental value of potted plants to a certain extent.

Finally, in order to ensure that the lily will continue to grow vigorously and produce beautiful flowers, we also need to use a proper amount of nutrient solution for it. After all, in the absence of basin mud, bowl lotus can not obtain nutrients from the soil, so appropriate use of a little nutrient solution, can supplement some nutrients for its growth and flowering lay a good foundation. Plants grow to a certain extent, in the case of appropriate conservation conditions, will naturally bloom.
