Houttuynia cordata Thunb is a famous controversial wild vegetable, people like it very much, and people who don't like it dislike it. In the southwest, people like this kind of wild vegetable very much, the most common is cold salad, and there have always been more wild herbs. But now the wild can no longer meet the market demand, so artificial cultivation has begun. If artificial cultivation wants to grow well, it is inevitable to study the wild environment of Houttuynia cordata Thunb, and artificial cultivation should meet those growth needs according to the growth characteristics.

1. Climate

Growing in subtropical climate, such as Yunnan, especially suitable for the growth of Houttuynia cordata, mainly distributed in Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and other places. Like the moist, cool growth environment. Often grow in valleys, fields and mounds.

2. Temperature

Strong adaptability to temperature, rhizome above 12 degrees can germinate, below 12 degrees above 25 degrees poor growth, high temperature at 35 degrees, stop growth will not die, can endure for a short time. You can survive the winter below zero. Aboveground tissue can grow at 13 degrees, but preferably between 13 degrees and 18 degrees.

3. Humidity

The distribution of the root system is shallow, the distribution is not wide, and there are not many root hairs, so the requirement for water is very strict. It is necessary to keep the soil moist, not short of water, preferably 70% to 80%, air humidity between 60% and 80%, lack of water, drought is easy to kill seedlings. Although the wild sometimes see extreme drought is still alive, but it is wild, artificial planting should provide a good environment as far as possible.

4. Lighting

For light requirements are not strict, but prefer weak light, but also more resistant to shade, because under strong light, the corresponding temperature will rise, affect growth, and easy to evaporate water, make the soil dry, root water loss, so the growth is not very good.

5. Soil

It is best to grow in loose soil, hardening is not conducive to rhizome growth, if sticky heavy, rain moisture, easy to blacken and rot, but sand soil is not good, water loss is very fast, poor growth. It is best to grow in sandy loam with good fertilizer and water retention. Growing in neutral soil, the main nutrients are nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer.

Houttuynia cordata mainly grows well on the wet, cool, weak light, neutral sandy soil, so the actual cultivation should provide a suitable growth environment as much as possible, which is also good for the yield.
