Watermelon pruning and vine pressing is a necessary work in the process of watermelon planting, which is very important to the growth of watermelon. Many people do not know what effect it has. How exactly should we do it? What do you need to pay attention to? Let's get to know it with the editor.

1. Pruning and pressing effect

Watermelon is easy to branch, if it is allowed to grow, it has more side branches, which will consume a lot of nutrients, seriously affect the growth of watermelon, cause watermelon falling to school, slow growth, small size, late market, poor quality and other adverse consequences. Therefore, measures such as pruning and pressing vines will be adopted during cultivation, and pruning and pressing vines can not only control the plant growth and make the distribution of leaf vines reasonable, but also improve the ventilation and light transmission conditions in the near-ground space and reduce the occurrence of diseases and insect pests.

2. Pruning method

Pruning is generally divided into four kinds of single and double vines and three vines and multiple vines, and different varieties adopt different methods at different times. For example, in the early-maturing cultivation with short growing period in the north, single-vine pruning is mostly used, and the main vine is retained when the main vine is about 50 cm long to the right, and all the lateral vines are removed, which is suitable for early-maturing varieties. On the other hand, double-vine pruning is widely used in the south and north, except for the main vine, one side vine is left at the base to grow parallel to the main vine, and the other side vines are removed. Pruning of three vines is a common pruning method for late-maturing varieties in open field cultivation. Except for the main vine, two lateral vines are selected to grow parallel to the main vine at the base, and the other lateral vines are removed. Multi-vine pruning is suitable for varieties with strong growth potential and sparse planting, topping the main vine, leaving 5 lateral vines after lateral branches are formed, growing parallel around or on both sides, and using lateral vines to bear fruit.

3. Pressure vine

Pressing the vine of watermelon can prevent the strong wind from damaging the vine, it is also beneficial to sitting melon and inducing adventitious root growth, can make full use of nutrients in the idle soil of melon land, and increase the absorption range of fertilizer and water, thus increasing yield. The pressure vine generally presses three sections, the first section when the main vine is 40cm, the second section when 100cm, and the third section when 150cm. Press the vine when pressing the vine and arrange it evenly, and stop pressing the vine when the fruit is dilated, generally pressing the vine 4-5 times during the whole growth period.

4. Points for attention

In the morning, the water melon vine is more crisp, not suitable to press the vine, and the bath is carried out after noon. The pressure vine is easy to break, and the main side vine should be tightened to facilitate the smooth transport of nutrients and pay attention to the heavy pressure in front of the melon and light pressure after the melon. Pressure vine is divided into open pressure and dark duck, open pressure refers to the use of clods or branches to fix the vine in a certain position on the ground, usually every 20 to 30 centimeters. Dark pressure refers to digging a deep groove on the ground, putting melon vines in it, and then filling and compacting, be careful not to press the leaves into the ditch. It is better to keep open pressure in areas with more Rain Water.
