Autumn army insects invade taiwan aggressively, and the whole people work together to find and catch insects. Since the discovery of the first case on the 8th of this month to the 22nd day, there have been 151 confirmed cases of autumn armyworm larvae in Taiwan, all of which are in corn fields. 131 cases have been treated (the damage area reaches 34 hectares, of which 75 cases have been destroyed and 56 cases have been treated by spraying), and the remaining 20 cases are waiting for treatment. Only Nantou County and Chiayi City in China have not yet found autumn armyworms.

A few days ago, the Council of Agriculture announced that it had entered the "second phase of prevention and control", calling on farmers to report any eggs, pupae, larvae and adults found in autumn army worms, and local governments to start spraying operations. Many farmers ask, autumn army insects only invaded Taiwan this year? Is pheromone available to catch bugs? Does the insect have native predators? Organic farmers panic, worried that the field may be forced to spray chemicals after notification? Besides spraying, what other control methods are there?

To obtain complete information on prevention and control, Upstream and Downstream interviewed Hsu Ju-chun, a domestic entomologist and professor of entomology at National Taiwan University, and Yen Sheng-hung, associate professor of biological sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, who assisted the Council of Agriculture in the morphological identification, as well as experts from the Bureau of Disease Control and Inspection and the Agricultural Laboratory. They explained current epidemic prevention methods, epidemic prevention options other than spraying, disputes over the use of sex pheromones among the people, and long-term responses.
