Planting technique of Star Apple
Star apple is a plant of the genus Euphorbiaceae, native to the Caribbean and the West Indies, widely distributed in tropical America, Southeast Asian countries and other tropical regions. Its tree shape is beautiful and suitable for garden ornamental trees, while bark, milk and seeds can be used as medicine. The taste of the fruit is also excellent. So how to grow star apples? Let's get to know it.
1. Choose a place to build a garden
Star apple is not strict with the soil, and can be planted on flat land or hillside land with convenient drainage and irrigation and medium fertility. Weeding should be carried out before planting, and then machine ploughing equipment should be used for deep ploughing and harrowing, and drainage facilities should be done at the same time. When planting, the suitable row spacing is 4m × 5m or 4m × 4m, and the specifications of planting holes are 1m in length and 1m in width and 80lm in height. In each hole, 10-20kg of farm manure, 1 jin of lime and 2-3 kg of superphosphate are applied as base fertilizer, and then mix well with the soil and backfill. When planting, choose the strong seedlings of more than 2 years old to plant, and when planting, the seedlings will be put into the hole to straighten, the soil will be compacted, the root water will be watered in time, and the tree plate will be covered with straw to reduce water evaporation and improve the survival rate.
2. Fertilizer and water management
Young trees are mainly suitable for nitrogen fertilizer, and the principle of thin fertilizer is adopted, nitrogen fertilizer is applied once in spring, summer and autumn, with appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, while the nutrition consumption of adult trees is large, so they should properly increase the application of organic fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. 1-1.5 kg compound fertilizer is applied to each plant every year, and 10-20 kg organic fertilizer is applied in winter combined with hole expansion to facilitate shoot drawing and wrapping strong fruit. Pay attention to watering during drought to keep the soil moist, while in the rainy season you should pay attention to drainage and waterlogging to avoid stagnant water retting roots.
3. Pruning
Dwarfing cultivation should be adopted in production to improve yield and quality. Young star apple trees are mainly shaped, leaving 3-5 main branches combined with thinning branches, and the rest of the lateral branches are removed. At the same time, the height of the tree is carried out and gradually cultivated into an open tree type, which can enter the fruiting stage earlier. In the harvest, the fruit tree should be pruned by the principle of removing the strong and retaining the weak, trimming and removing the weak branches, overgrown branches, inner bore branches and overlapping branches, retaining reasonable fruiting branches and properly controlling the height of the tree.
4. Pest control
Star apple trees have strong resistance to diseases and insect pests. If fruit flies, aphids, shell insects and soot damage fruits and leaves are encountered during cultivation, they should be controlled in time. Drosophila can be sprayed with phoxim EC and hung to catch flies, while the occurrence of soot disease is mostly caused by aphids and shell insects, so it should be combined with insect disease treatment, and carbendazim or imidacloprid can be used to control. In addition, we should also pay attention to timely removal of fallen leaves and dead branches, reduce the source of diseases and insect pests, and spray stone-sulfur mixture on the whole plant once after clearing the garden.
