Does bonsai need to be forward-looking in style and shape?
"A good bonsai usually takes 5-10 years to cultivate, during which time it should be managed every day, such as watering each morning and evening in summer, changing pots, pruning, weeding, disinfestation and so on according to its growth." This is the experience of Wang Kui, a master of bonsai art in Zhejiang Province.
It is precisely because the cultivation of bonsai takes several years, so it must be forward-looking in style, so as to avoid working hard for nearly 10 years, only to find that it is out of date in the end.
In addition, individuals are required to have a good level of art and conservation, rely on spatial imagination in the growth process of bonsai, accurately analyze and judge the growth of branches, and then deal with modeling according to the layout of branches.
Another view is that bonsai modeling does not need this kind of foresight. If there is such a forward-looking, bonsai modeling is easy to go into a stylized, mechanized dead end. The modeling in the personal mind is limited, and it is impossible to have the ever-changing modeling like nature.
Before creating, painters have to go to nature to sketch, that is, to seek inspiration from nature, looking for different composition and shape, in order to achieve the unexpected artistic effect of Taoism and nature.
If we use this kind of forward-looking to shape, it is tantamount to directional training, and the artistic effect of the final work must fall into the artificial and stylized nest mortar.
Bonsai modeling, should let the material grow randomly, grow into ever-changing shapes, and then shape according to talent, in order to obtain unexpected and ever-changing artistic effect.
