Sunflowers have a short growing period and are not afraid of high temperature. The sowing time of sunflower is generally from March to April, and it can be sowed in three seasons except winter. The suitable temperature for growth should be above 15 degrees at night and above 20 degrees during the day. Therefore, seeds can be sown in the Yangtze River Delta region from April to September, and flowers can be seen in the same year.

Sunflower seeds, that is, common sunflower seeds, sunflower seeds, the shape is consistent with fried melon seeds. However, the dwarf sunflower seeds of horticultural varieties are smaller. Common varieties are: smile (laughter), folk songs, (toy) bear, Miss Sunshine, etc., plant height ranges from 15CM to 30CM, suitable for potted plants.

Sunflower seeds are large achenes with full grains. Strong seed vitality, strong stress resistance, sowing available seedling blocks, ordinary peat, or even ordinary garden soil, without special seedling treatment. When sowing, insert the sunflower seed vertically into the sowing medium with the tip down and cover the soil with about 1 to 2CM. Keep the medium moist before emergence. Seedlings usually emerge in 3 to 7 days. Seeds should be shaded and properly covered with soil to help them take off their caps during germination.

Keep the medium moist after the seeds are germinated and unearthed and managed in a sunny place. Keep the environment and medium moist, can accept strong sunlight, lack of light will be too long.

If the seedling is too dense, it can be planted between the seedlings. Use toothpicks, tweezers and other details to carefully remove the medium, take out the seedlings that need to be taken out and transplant them into a small bowl. If there is any damage to the root system during this period, it will not affect the later plant growth.

Sowing depth needs to grasp certain principles, so that the seeds can absorb enough water before emergence, so that they can break the shell and sprout and eventually pop out of the soil. Therefore, the sowing depth must be appropriate, neither too shallow nor too deep. If it is too shallow, it is easy to be dried by the wind, and if the seed cannot absorb water, it will not swell and germinate naturally; too deep, even if it germinates, the tender leaflet will not be able to push out of the soil layer, and the seed germination needs water and oxygen, and the seed is planted too deep. Seeds cannot breathe and will hinder germination.

The seeds of ornamental sunflowers are smaller than those of eating sunflowers and larger than those of other grasses and flowers. Therefore, the sowing depth we choose is generally 1-2cm.
