Heart-picking (topping) technology of bonsai flowers
Heart-picking is to pinch (or cut off) the top tip of the main stem or side branch of flowers with your fingers to promote axillary bud germination or inhibit branch growth, making plant growth stout, beautiful, and increasing the number of flowers.
General herbaceous flowers, such as a string of red, goldfish grass, five-color pepper, Catharanthus roseus, etc., after the seedlings survive, when the plant height is about 10 cm, it can be topped to promote its multi-branching and multi-flowering. Such as the four seasons crabapple, upside down Admiralty, chrysanthemum, etc., after the seedlings survive, should be heart-picking, to promote multiple lateral branches, rich plant shape, increase the number of flowers.
However, for some flowers that make the flowers smaller or cannot bloom after picking the heart, such as impatiens, cockscomb, Jiangxi wax, etc., it is not suitable to pick the heart. Some woody flowers often change pots in spring or when the main branches are growing vigorously, they are topped and coring to speed up the formation of branches. Such as pomegranate, rose, plum blossom, poinsettia, leaf flower, night clove, etc., can be topped many times according to the purpose of cultivation and plant growth.
Climbing vines and leading oxen, I usually pick my heart the first time the main vine grows seven or eight leaves. After the axillary buds grow, only the two buds below the middle are left, and the rest are removed. Then when waiting for four or five leaves to grow for the second time, only two leaves are left to pick the heart. When the leaf buds grow again, choose to leave three good buds and remove the rest! Personal point of view, for reference only!
The heart-picking picture of the dwarf cow above can be clearly seen at a glance. Flower friends can draw examples and don't stick to the exact same thing. The biggest factor in the burst basin of dwarf cattle is topping. After removing the top advantage, it will promote the germination of lateral branches. the more lateral branches, the more the main force of flowering. The first pinching and topping is usually carried out when the seedlings have 6 true leaves, and then whenever the lateral branches grow to 6 leaves, they are topped once, pinching off 2 leaves and leaving 4 leaves, referred to as "pinch 2 and stay 4". A pot of compact branches of weeping cattle is beginning to take shape.
Some woody flowers often change pots in spring or when the main branches are growing vigorously, they are topped and coring to speed up the formation of branches. Such as pomegranate, rose, gardenia, plum blossom, poinsettia, etc., can be topped many times according to the purpose of cultivation and plant growth.
