The removal of the tip bud of the main stem or side branch of the plant can remove the top bud of the main stem or side branch, inhibit the growth of the main branch, promote the plant to produce more side branches, promote the dwarfing of the plant, enrich the plant shape, increase the position and number of flowers, etc. Coring can also adjust the vegetative growth of plants, postpone flowering or promote the second flowering of plants. Coring techniques are often used in the growth of grass flowers and woody plants.

Coring is the work of dealing with reserved dry branches, basic branches or lateral branches. Coring is determined according to the purpose and method of cultivation, as well as the growth type of the variety. When the reserved trunk, basic branch and lateral branch grow to a certain number of ears and leaves (length), the apical growth point is removed (it is not necessary to pick the heart from the top of the main stem). Coring can control heightening and elongating growth, which is beneficial to thickening growth and accelerating fruit development.

General herbaceous flowers, such as a bunch of red, five-colored pepper, periwinkle, hundred-day grass, sunflower, Gesang flower, etc., after the seedlings survive, when the plant height is about 10 cm, it can be topped to promote its multi-branching and multi-flowering. Such as the four seasons crabapple, longevity flower, inverted Admiralty, chrysanthemum, etc., after the seedlings survive, should be heart-picking, to promote multiple lateral branches, rich plant shape, increase the number of flowers. But for some flowers that make the flowers smaller or cannot bloom after picking the heart, such as impatiens, cockscomb and so on, it is not suitable to pick the heart.

The heart-picking of fruiting branches should be carried out 30-40 days before pulling seedlings, that is, the buds about 40 days before pulling seedlings are effective. The coring of the side branches reserved as auxiliary branches should be based on the standard of not affecting the light between plants and reaching the planned number of leaves left.

Heart picking should be carried out in the morning. If it is a fruit branch, 2-3 leaves should be left in front of the first inflorescence, which is not only beneficial to the fruit growth, but also prevent the fruit from sunburn caused by direct exposure to sunlight.

The exuberant growth of lateral branches will be caused after coring, so the treatment of forking and coring of lateral branches should be strengthened, otherwise it will affect the normal results.

The function of heart picking has two points:

First, it can promote branches and increase the number of branches and leaves, which can also ease the growth of young trees and avoid "taking big strips".

Second, it can promote the formation of axillary flower buds in the full fruit period.

The effects of the above two points are different, and the coring time is also different. when the new shoots grow to semi-Lignification, the first kind of coring time is generally carried out from late May to mid-June, about 1 canopy 3 of the new shoots are removed, and 1-3 leaves at the front end of the branches after coring are removed to facilitate bud germination.

Picking the heart too early and not too late because picking the heart too early often only sprouts a bud at the front end and still runs a single branch, which can not achieve the purpose of promoting branching; if it is too late, the new shoot is close to the capping stage, the germination is weak, and the growing branch is not ideal.

The second kind of coring time should be mastered for 10 days before the new shoot is capped, because it is too early to promote branch formation, but late to form axillary flower buds. This effect is mainly applied to trees in full fruiting stage, but has no such effect on young trees.
