Propagation Technique of Hamamelis chinensis by Layering
Witch hazel is mostly born in hillsides, valleys and other places, it is an alpine tree species and a warm tree species, but witch hazel has strong cold tolerance and can grow in the open field at a temperature of minus 15 ℃. Witch hazel is mainly sown and propagated, and it can also be reproduced by striping and grafting. The following is to introduce the hamamelis striping propagation technology:
Hamamelis striping breeding can be carried out in both spring and autumn. Cut the branches under the node and bury them in the trenches that have been dug, with a depth of 6-8 cm. The top is facing up, the branches are fixed with bamboo sticks and then covered with soil, and the soil is often kept moist. It can be cut and planted with the mother plant in the next spring. Transplantation of witch hazel is more resistant to transplantation. It usually takes place from October to November. Too late transplantation will affect flowering in early spring. Small seedlings should be transplanted with soil, while large seedlings should be transplanted with soil balls.
If the breeder, only a small number of seedlings, can be used high-pressure method for effective reproduction. The time is after the sprouting of new buds in spring. When pressing, you should choose a strong branch with a tree shape, and in the lower part of it, choose a smooth place to cut and peel the ring, the width of the ring is 2.5 to 3.0 cm, and the cambium of the ring must be completely stripped. If there is still a small amount of residual cambium, it is also necessary to scrape it off with a knife. It is best to apply 0.05% 0.1% naphthalene acetic acid aqueous solution at the ring, if there is no such hormone. It can also be smeared with 10% sucrose aqueous solution, which is beneficial to the formation of healing tissue and rooting of the crimping ring.
After the medicine is coated, wrap the ring with plastic film, fasten the lower end, straighten out the film, fill it with rooting culture soil prepared with moss, mountain soil, dried cow dung, wrap around the ring, pour the water thoroughly, and then tie up the upper end to form a soil mass.
The main purpose of the future management is to keep the soil moist, especially during the period of healing and rooting, the soil must not be dry, otherwise the new roots will die, if necessary, the upper end of the rope can be untied, replenish the water and then tie it tight. The branches treated with drugs can take root quickly and can be cut off with soil mass in autumn. during cultivation, we should pay attention to remove the film, protect the root system, and pour water thoroughly after planting to make it survive.
