Cutting methods of Fragrance Wood
Cuttage, also known as cuttings, is a common method of breeding plants. The stems, leaves, roots and buds of some plants can be cut (called cuttings in horticulture), or inserted into the soil, sand, or soaked in water, and can be planted after rooting, making it an independent new plant.
Artificial cultivation of potted fragrant wood seedlings mainly use seed propagation, but also can use cutting propagation. Dormant branch wood generally begins to take root in about 30 days, and leafy wood begins to take root in 15-20 days, with a survival rate of more than 95%. It is the most effective method for rapid propagation of fragrant wood at present.
1. Cutting time
The cuttage seedling of fragrant wood can be carried out in spring and autumn, and the flowering period is in spring.
2. Cuttings production
During the period when the trees are quiet, one-year-old strong branches of the adult mother tree are selected and cut into cuttings 10-15 cm long, with the upper cut 1-1.5 cm away from the bud and the lower cut 0.3-0.5 cm away from the bud.
3. Cuttings treatment
Soak the base of cuttings with ABT rooting powder (see instructions). The impregnation time is 12-24 hours.
4. Matrix treatment.
The medium of cutting propagation is recommended to choose the soil with good permeability, medium water holding capacity and neutral or slightly acidic pH value. Permeable river sand or perlite is recommended here with a high success rate. Before rapid propagation, the substrate can be disinfected by chemical agents such as potassium permanganate.
5. Cutting plant
After planting in trenches, the cuttings were inserted into the soil 2P3 or so. After planting, the cuttings were covered with plastic film to improve the air humidity. It should be carefully managed before rooting and began to take root in about 45 days.
