In landscaping and landscape engineering, rhododendron has been more and more widely used, and the market demand is increasing in recent years. Therefore, for the breeding of rhododendron seedlings, it is particularly important to improve the production efficiency by improving methods. There are many ways of propagation of rhododendron, and young plants can be bred by sowing, cutting, striping and grafting.

However, as a family user, potted rhododendron also has high ornamental value and is deeply loved by potted enthusiasts. And the propagation method of rhododendron is also relatively simple, and cuttings are usually used to achieve the purpose of breeding young potted plants. So, when will the azaleas be cut? How do you cut it?

Practice has proved that the cutting propagation of rhododendron can be carried out from May to June in spring and summer and from September to October in autumn. However, considering the effect of temperature on rhododendron cutting germination, it is usually the most suitable for cutting in May in spring and October in autumn. Let's take a look at how azaleas are propagated by cuttings.

1. Making cuttings

Azalea cuttings generally choose half-year-old or one-year-old branches with semi-Lignification as cuttings, and the length should be kept between 8-10 cm. And when making cuttings, the cut must be in an oblique state to increase the area with the soil, which is very effective to improve the rooting effect. At the same time, in order to reduce water evaporation, it is usually necessary to retain only 2-3 leaves on the cuttings and cut off the upper part of the leaves.

Second, bubble root water

Rooting agents or rooting powder are often used to accelerate the rooting of cuttings in the process of cutting propagation, and the same is true for cuckoo cuttings. It is usually necessary to soak one end of the inserted soil in the rooting agent solution for about 1 day. Of course, we can not soak the rooting agent, can directly apply rooting powder, can also achieve the purpose of promoting rooting.

Third, make the slotting machine

Rhododendron is a kind of acid-loving tree species, so the soil in which we make cuttings should also be kept acidic, which is more conducive to the germination of cuttings and the growth of cuttings. 4 parts of peat soil, 3 parts of garden soil and 3 parts of coconut bran can be mixed and mixed well before use. Before cutting, it is necessary to irrigate the cutting bed in advance to ensure that the soil has appropriate humidity during cutting.

IV. Cutting process

Poke some holes in the cutter and insert the cuttings in turn. After all the cuttings are inserted into the soil, gently compact the soft soil around the cuttings with your hands to make the soil as close as possible to the cuttings, but also to achieve a stable effect.

V. maintenance and management

After all the cuttings are inserted into the soil, pour enough water, and then move the cuttings to a cool environment with normal air circulation for maintenance. In order to moisturize, we can also cover the nursery bed with plastic film. If the growth conditions are suitable, it usually takes less than a month for the seedlings to adapt to the new growth environment. After that, we can provide appropriate light for it, but to avoid direct light, and at the same time do a good job of soil moisture and moisture measures.

6. Transplanting in pot

Usually, after cutting for one and a half to two months, the cuttings will take root. At this time, the previously covered plastic film should be removed in time to ensure smooth air circulation and exchange. After that, it is usually kept for watering in the morning and evening. About a month later, when the new roots of the cuttings grow stably, we can transplant the seedlings in pots. At this point, the seedlings should be transplanted into a new pot with a diameter of 10 centimeters.
