How to get rich trees grafted
The rich tree is a kind of tree species native to the tropics, which can be seen in many places because of its high ornamental value. And there are many breeding methods of rich trees, such as sowing, cutting, grafting and so on. In the previous article, the editor shared that the rich tree breeds potted seedlings by means of sowing and cutting, so how can the rich tree be grafted? Today, the editor will share with you the grafting method of the rich tree.
As for foliage pot planting, we usually use sowing or cutting to breed rich tree seedlings, but if it is to improve varieties and promote the flowering and fruiting of rich trees, we usually need to use grafting means to achieve. Because it is generally time-consuming to sow and breed rich trees to blossom and bear fruit, it usually takes seven or eight years to achieve. However, we can choose the 2-year-old seedlings of the rich tree as the rootstock, and then cut the 1-year-old strong branches from the fruiting tree as the scion for grafting. If it goes well, it can blossom in the second year. In this way, it can blossom more than 5 years ahead of schedule.
Although the seedlings of the rich tree can be bred by sowing as long as the growth environment is suitable, the grafting of the rich tree needs to choose a more appropriate time. Because in the right time to improve and cultivate the seedlings of rich trees, the survival rate is often higher, and the effect of grafting is better. On the other hand, the split grafting method is generally adopted for the grafting of rich trees, and the survival rate of grafted seedlings can even reach more than 80%, which is a relatively efficient breeding method. Let's take a look at the grafting process of the seedlings of the rich tree.
First, make scion
The one-year-old branches with strong growth were selected and cut from the mother plant of the rich tree with normal flowering and fruiting, and the scion was required to have 1-2 buds, and then cut one knife on each side of the lower end of the bud according to the appropriate angle, so that the two cutting planes were wedge-shaped. Pay attention to the balance of force in the cutting process until you see the forming layer of the scion and cut it in one step as far as possible to avoid mending the knife.
2. Rootstock treatment
In the grafting of rich trees, young rich trees are often used as rootstocks, and then the upper trunk of the plant is truncated from about 40 cm from the ground. Then the grafting interface is made at the position of 1-2 cm at the lower end of the section. Use a sharp blade to cut longitudinally into the trunk until you see the cambium. Pay attention to keeping the length of the bevel consistent with the oblique section of the scion as much as possible.
III. Grafting process
Insert the wedge-shaped end of the scion evenly along the cut of the rootstock, so that the wedge-shaped opening of the scion is fully attached to the incision of the rootstock. Of course, sometimes it is inevitable that the cut of the rootstock is larger than the wedge-shaped opening of the scion, so the scion can be moved to one side to make the cambium of the rootstock come into close contact with the cambium of the scion as closely as possible. this is more conducive to the germination and survival of grafted seedlings.
IV. Bandage after connection
After completing the main work of grafting, we also need to use plastic film to wrap and bind the grafting site, which is also very important. The purpose of winding the plastic belt is to make the rootstock incision of the graft interface contact with the scion incision more fully and closely, so that it will not become loose easily; at the same time, it can also prevent Rain Water and dew from soaking the graft joint and infecting bacteria. If all goes well, we can see the scion sprouting in about a month. In this case, we need to untie the grafting site in time, and if necessary, the plastic belt should be removed in time to avoid affecting the germination and growth of grafted seedlings.
At this point, the grafting process of the rich tree is completed, and what needs to be done in the later stage is maintenance and management. As for the growth of grafted seedlings in the later stage, it is mainly based on whether the maintenance and management work in the later stage is in place. The grafting process of the rich tree is the same as the grafting method of many other tree species, as long as you can grasp the details, there will generally be no difference. You might as well try more. After all, practice makes perfect.
