Friends who are familiar with dahlias generally prefer to plant dahlias as family pots and raise them for viewing. After all, Dahlia has a long flowering period, many and large flowers, and a wide variety of flowers and colors, which is of high ornamental value. As for potted dahlias, first of all, we need to get seedlings, which are usually achieved by means of bulb propagation and cutting propagation.

However, if you adopt bulb propagation, you often need to accelerate germination to improve the survival rate, the whole propagation process is relatively complex, and compared with cutting, the survival rate is also lower. Therefore, family potted dahlias often use cutting means to propagate potted seedlings. So, how do dahlias propagate by cutting?

Dahlia can use cuttings to breed seedlings from early spring to summer and even in autumn, but summer cuttings are usually the most suitable. After all, dahlias like to be warm and not hardy, and the key condition for reproduction and survival is temperature protection. As long as the ambient temperature is kept between 15 °C and 25 °C, cuttings are generally easy to survive.

After choosing the cutting time, the next thing we need to do is to cut the cuttings, generally selecting the sturdy twigs growing at the top of the adult plant as cuttings. It is appropriate to keep the length of cuttings between 15-20 cm, but when cutting branches, be sure to cut down 2-3 cm below the node, and then cut off the branches neatly and neatly to avoid tearing or other damage to the branches.

And cutting branches in this way usually has two advantages: on the one hand, it can dwarf the shape of Dahlia, after all, potted plants should not let the plant grow too tall, and it is easy to lodge when the branches are too long. On the other hand, if the branches are too long, it is not beautiful, so that the whole looks more balanced and better.

The next thing we need to do is to prepare the containers and substrates for cutting. usually we can use seedling boxes to install potted soil for cutting. On the other hand, the basin soil is generally mixed with rotten leaf soil, sand soil and peat soil according to the proportion of 2:1:1. And before cutting, it is recommended to remove the leaves at the lower end of the cuttings to avoid burying them under the soil, otherwise it is easy to cause decay and produce bacteria.

Then we insert the base of the cuttings directly into the matrix, preferably at a depth of 2-3 cm, that is, about 2 fingers. If the matrix is too dry, it is recommended to use a small stick to insert a hole of the right size, and then insert the base into the hole. After all the cuttings have been inserted, we need to water the cuttings again in time, generally soaking through the substrate.

As for the location of cutting seedlings, generally choose a semi-shady place with good ventilation conditions, pay attention to maintain the humidity of the substrate, suggest proper watering every day, and it is appropriate to water once in the morning and evening in sunny days. Let the basin soil often keep moist, can prevent cuttings from withering, generally adhere to 2-3 weeks, it will take root. Then we choose to transplant it into the pot at the right time.
