At this end of the very old street in Pingxi, a pair of expectant eyes stared closely at the rising sky lantern, hoping that the blessing could break through the clouds and reach the sky, while on the other side, the elderly body supported a two-story bamboo pole with the same eager eyes, chasing in the direction of the sky lantern, hoping that the sky lantern would fall quickly so that it could be recycled. This is the daily life of Pingxi tourists and local old people.

Pingxi Sky Lantern is famous far and near, attracting more than 6 million tourists every year. Behind the prosperity is the simplification of environmental costs and industries brought about by sky lanterns. Except for a few shops, the persistently high land rent makes it difficult for young people to return. The proportion of the local elderly population is rising, and the young population is declining year by year. Pingxi, which seems to be lively, has become the oldest place among the 368 township urban areas in the country.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior in March 107, the population of Pingxi District of New Taipei City is 4712, of which the elderly population accounts for 28.57%, which is the township with the highest proportion of the elderly population in the country. The aging index (the number of elderly people per 100 young population) is as high as 485.25, that is, every young population in Pingxi is faced with nearly five elderly people over the age of 65, which is 4.5 times the national average.
