On Yangpai Bonsai and its characteristics
Yangpai bonsai is one of the excellent traditional arts of the Han nationality and one of the five major schools of bonsai in China. A bonsai art school named after Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, which began in the Tang Dynasty. Its one-inch (one-inch 3.3.cm) three-bend production skills can be described as unique in the world. In order to better protect this set of special bonsai production skills, Yangzhou Bonsai Museum has recently declared to the relevant departments a list of national intangible cultural heritage, which has been accepted.
Yangpai bonsai has a long history, its distinct, neat and stable unique shape, the key lies in the exquisite cutting skills.
It is understood that Yangpai bonsai has repeatedly won gold and silver in the National Bonsai Grand Prix with this rigorous production skill. In the early 1980s, it was identified as one of the five major bonsai schools in the country.
Yangpai bonsai was made in the Tang and Song dynasties, and to the Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou widely built gardens and Daxing bonsai, saying that "every family has a garden, every household raises bonsai", and formed a school. In 1949, Yangpai bonsai had a further development. In early 1950, Yangzhou transferred 36 pots of pine and cypress bonsai to Zhongnanhai, Beijing. In 1973, Yangpai bonsai and Lingnan School, Sichuan School, Su School and Shanghai style bonsai were listed as the five major schools of national tree stump bonsai by the Garden and Greening Bureau of the State Administration of Urban Construction.
Yangpai bonsai has excellent skills, especially pine, cypress, elm and poplar (melon seeds and yellow poplar), which are hierarchical, neat and stable, rich in meticulous and decorative local characteristics and Han culture, and enjoy a good reputation at home and abroad.
Neat and varied, elegant and spectacular:
The artistic feature of Yangpai bonsai is "neat and varied, elegant without losing its grandeur". Yangpai bonsai adopts the method of brown silk "fine binding and fine cutting", just like the "meticulous drawing" in traditional Chinese painting. Yangpai bonsai also pays special attention to "profound strength and training since childhood", that is, "the pile must be old, the long time is expensive; the piece must be flat, and the merit is the most expensive." Due to the influence of Yangzhou's economic, cultural and geographical environment, Yangzhou bonsai, like Yangzhou gardens, has both the characteristics of the north and the beauty of the south. This is also the reason for the artistic characteristics of Yangzhou bonsai.
