Iron tree is a kind of ancient plant which is difficult to bloom. Once you encounter a flower, you must seize the opportunity to let it grow mature seeds smoothly. It usually blossoms in late spring and early summer, and mature seeds can be harvested in autumn. At that time, we can harvest and sow the seeds, and the highest budding rate can reach more than 90%. So, should the irontree seed be shelled?

Although the mature seeds of the iron tree are tightly wrapped in a hard shell, if we adopt the method of sowing as we pick and sow, we generally do not need to peel the shell and sow it directly in the soil. But if you want it to sprout faster, you can also sprout it before sowing.

If you sow seeds directly, you can generally order them in the basin. After controlling the spacing and evenly sowing the iron tree seeds, the original can cover it with soil about 2-3 centimeters thick. However, the seeds of iron tree need to be germinated at a certain temperature, which generally requires the environment to be controlled at a high temperature between 30 °C and 33 °C, and to do a good job of moisturizing at the same time. If all goes well, it will sprout in about 2 weeks at the earliest.

After the iron tree seeds sprout, we need to continue to cultivate them in the on-demand pot for a long time. After all, the growth rate of the iron tree is very slow. It usually takes 2-4 years for cultivation before we can transplant it into other flowerpots and manage them as pots. However, if you want to successfully implement the process of sowing and reproduction, and let the seeds sprout more quickly, it is best to soak the seeds and accelerate the germination in advance.

Generally, before sowing, the selected mature irontree seeds are soaked in warm water in a 50 °C thermos flask for half a day, about 12 hours. Then take it out and dry it for 1 hour, then change it to warm water at the same temperature, and at the same time add 0.1% ferrous sulfate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate to the water to make a diluent, and then soak the dried seeds in it for half a day. After that, we can use it to sow seeds directly.
