The Agriculture and Food Administration estimates that the harvested area of pineapple this year is 8385 hectares, down 1 per cent from last year's 8455 hectares, but the estimated annual yield is 445,611 metric tons, an increase of 3 per cent over last year's 430000 2922 metric tons. The natural flowering period of pineapple is about November to February, and the production period is concentrated from June to August, but it is rainy in summer, which leads to an increase in the ratio of meat fruit, poor quality, and easy to cause oversupply and affect the market price. in order to maintain farmers' income, the Agriculture and Food Department appointed various improvement farms to guide farmers last year, aiming at the large-scale flower promotion of golden diamond pineapple, which has the most extensive planting area, so that the peak period of golden diamond pineapple in Gaoping area will end in early May. At present, the prosperous period of golden diamond pineapple in Taiwan has come to an end.

According to the trading station of the agricultural market, taking the Taipei auction market as an example, the largest trading volume of golden diamond pineapple was concentrated in May and June last year, which also made the price very low at that time. This year, the average trading volume is distributed from March to May, and prices can be maintained at a certain level.

Xu Mifei, head of the crop production team of the Agriculture and Food Department, said that May to August is the peak season for summer fruit, and people have a wide variety of choices. last year, various improvement farms were appointed to assist farmers in promoting the blossom of golden diamond pineapples. Gaoping pineapples, which were originally rich in April, were produced one month to March ahead of schedule. In addition, because of the warm winter this year, pineapples suitable for high temperature growth still maintain quality, and the price also reaches a certain level.

According to the statistics of the Council of Agriculture, the largest pineapple products in Taiwan are concentrated in Pingtung. Chen Silu, an assistant researcher at the Agricultural improvement Farm in Kaohsiung District, said that because the price of pineapple was good in May the year before last, pineapple farmers in Kaohsiung and Pingtung were delayed to blossom, hoping to get good profits. however, it led to an increase in output and a decline in prices in May last year, causing farmers to complain. Therefore, the improvement farms instructed local farmers to adjust according to the appropriate season. For example, Gaoping area will adjust the peak period to March to May, and Gaoping pineapple has entered the end in early May.

In addition, this year, due to the acceleration of flowers and warm winter, the harvest of some pineapples in February has been advanced, and the quality of pineapples has also remained good because of less rain in winter, and the price has remained high-end. Chen Siru is worried that not every winter is warm and rainless and suitable for the growth of pineapples. She suggests that farmers should not adjust the production date with different prices every year. For example, the most suitable production period in Gaoping area is March to May.

Xu Jifei said that with regard to the adjustment of the production period this year, farmers can also get a stable income, so the Agriculture and Food Administration will continue to carry out flower promotion operations to allow pineapples to be put on the market ahead of time and avoid summer fruit production. As for July and August, are there any pineapples to eat? Xu said that although this year's golden diamond pineapple production period is coming to an end, other varieties such as milk pineapple will be on the market one after another in August.
