Autumn is the season when flower seeds mature, and harvesting seeds requires mastering the maturity and maturity of seeds. The seed matures early and late, even if it is the same plant flowers and trees, it is impossible to mature at the same time, to pick with maturity, so as to avoid seed mildew or ripe scattered. When harvesting seeds, select seeds that bloom early or mature early. Such seeds germinate early after sowing in the coming year, and the seedlings are strong, and they bloom early later. Plants with variations in flower type or color should be harvested separately and planted separately, so that new varieties may be bred.

The method of harvesting flower seeds varies according to the type of flower. Some can be picked whole flowers, air-dried seeds, such as cockscomb, a string of red, etc. After picking berries should be placed in water, rub with hands to wash away the pulp, wash out the seeds and dry, such as gold and silver eggplant, coral beans and so on. Some flowers, after the fruit matures, the pericarp dehisces, and the seeds are ejected, such as Lagerstroemia, Impatiens, etc. Therefore, the fruit should be selected from green to yellow, timely harvest, so as not to lose seeds. There are also some bulbs of flowers, such as dahlia, canna, taro, etc., in the north under frost before the bulbs should be dug up in time to avoid freezing damage. After the bulbs are dug out and dried, they are placed indoors for sand storage.

All kinds of seeds should not be exposed to sunlight, to dry in a ventilated place, otherwise it will affect the germination rate. After drying, the seeds should be stored in a ventilated place, paying attention to moisture, smoke and rat prevention.

Flower storage methods are commonly used in dry storage, sand storage, water storage three.

1. Dry storage. Most flower seeds can be collected this way. First dry the seeds, remove impurities, put into gauze sewing bags, such as a string of red, cockscomb, purple jasmine, etc. Do not put it into a closed plastic bag or glass bottle, so as not to be airtight and affect the respiration of seeds. The seed bag can be hung in a cool and ventilated place indoors and kept at room temperature of 5℃~10℃.

2. Sand storage. Can be harvested peony, peony, magnolia seeds, etc., placed in 0℃~5℃ low temperature wet sand storage. Sand moisture content to "hand into a group, a touch that is scattered" is appropriate. Under natural conditions, these seeds have a period of dormancy, and after dormancy, they reach post-maturity. Sowing is usually carried out in spring and removed from the sand a month before sowing.

3. Water storage. Some flower seeds should be stored in water after harvest, such as water lily seeds. The water temperature used in water storage is generally required to be about 5℃. When it is lower than 0℃, the seeds will be frozen and affect germination.
