Hydroponic culture makes flowers get rid of the damage of soil diseases and insect pests, but it will still be damaged by environmental diseases and insect pests. Fungi, bacteria and viruses in the air can still infect the stems and leaves of hydroponic flowers, making them suffer different degrees of pathological changes. Aphids and shell insects can float indoors with the wind and drop to hydroponic flowers to suck juice. Moths lay eggs on flowers, hatch into larvae, and eat the tender leaves and stem tips of flowers. Flowers that wash their roots in water culture will also carry fungi, bacteria, viruses, eggs, larvae and so on. If they are not carefully checked and eliminated, they will leave hidden dangers.

Because of the special environment of hydroponic flowers, once diseases and insect pests occur, it is not suitable to use chemical pesticides to kill insects, nor can they be sterilized with large doses of fungicides. Although these drugs can play the role of insecticidal and sterilization, they can also cause pollution to the environment. Therefore, prevention should be given priority to the diseases and insect pests that may occur in hydroponic flowers.

When choosing hydroponic flowers, try to choose flowers with strong plants, luxuriant growth and free from diseases and insect pests. If pests are found in the maintenance process, they can be captured manually or washed away by tap water. There are few infective diseases in hydroponic flowers, only a few leaves have brown lesions, dry necrosis, or irregular wet lesions, which are formed by fungal or bacterial infection. After discovery, the whole diseased leaves should be removed and destroyed so as not to spread. For hydroponic flowers with disjoint and rotten roots, the method of plant renewal can be adopted. The branches that are still intact at the upper end of the stem node are cut off and inserted in clean water. After a period of maintenance and management, new roots can grow and become independent plants.
