The temperature is low in winter, after the gentleman orchid enters the room, should pay special attention to strengthen the management.

First, heat preservation and temperature control. Cymbidium likes warmth, is afraid of heat and cold, and its growth is blocked below 5 ℃, while it is easy to suffer frost injury at 0 ℃. In the Yangtze River basin and the north area, the potted flowers of Magnolia should be transferred to indoor or greenhouse for maintenance in winter. When the indoor temperature is lower than 10 ℃, in addition to covering the surface of the basin soil with a layer of charcoal powder with a thickness of 1 cm, it should also be placed in an indoor sunny warm place. When the indoor temperature continues to drop, you can cover the flowerpot with a film cover to facilitate heating, but the temperature in the cover should not exceed 25 ℃. If it exceeds, it should be ventilated and cooled. After the formation of the gentleman orchid arrow, the room temperature is kept at about 18 ℃, and the temperature difference between day and night should be kept at 6 ℃ ~ 10 ℃, otherwise the arrow will blossom if it does not grow to a proper height, and the phenomenon of "entrapment" will occur. After flowering, it can be properly ventilated and cooled, which is beneficial to prolong the flowering period.

Second, proper fertilization. After entering the room, you can first apply a small amount of solid fertilizer, such as fermented bean cake, rotten sesame oil residue, fried bone meal and dried blood meal and so on. After every 20 days or so can be combined with watering, plus a fermented bean cake water. The application rate of nitrogen fertilizer should be strictly controlled to prevent the excessive growth of leaves and affect flowering. The plants that are about to bloom can apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote the differentiation and formation of flower buds, shoot arrows quickly and blossom early.

Third, adjust the light. The lighting conditions of Cymbidium indoors are limited and can be adjusted by manually moving flowerpots. Under normal circumstances, the flowerpot can be placed in the sun during the day, so that it can be exposed to the sun and maintain its due color. In the early stage of flowering, artificial lighting is needed at night and placed under fluorescent lamps. In particular, it should be noted that in order to make the growth direction of the leaves on both sides of the orchid neatly consistent, but also to maintain the balance of plant light, insist on turning the flowerpot 180 degrees every half month or so, so as to avoid the leaf length deviation and reduce the ornamental value. After flowering, the light time can be reduced appropriately in order to prolong the flowering period.

Fourth, control watering. Gentleman orchid is a fleshy root, afraid of water stains, too much watering will make the root suffocate or even rot. Especially in winter, because the temperature is relatively low and the water evaporates slowly, the amount of watering should be controlled. The basin soil should be slightly dry, but it can be watered every 20 days or so. The watering temperature should not be too low and should be equal to room temperature. In order to increase the air humidity, water can be sprayed to the ground around the basin. Avoid excessive watering to produce waterlogging or half-cut-off water to affect root absorption.

Fifth, prolong the flowering period. The flowering period of Magnolia is mostly from December to March next year. The method of prolonging the flowering period is that when the flower is about to bloom, it should be placed in a place away from light, properly controlled watering, and maintained at room temperature of 8 ℃ ~ 12 ℃, which can prolong the flowering period for 10 ~ 20 days. In order to produce more famous orchids, the famous orchids of different flowers can be selected as the male parent for timely pollination. Generally do not use self-pollination, so that not only the seed setting rate is low, but also the variety will degenerate.

Sixth, clean the plant. Magnolia is a variety of flowers with both leaves and flowers. if the leaves are polluted by dust, they will turn green and produce diseased and rotten leaves, which will reduce the quality of flowers and shorten the viewing period. If the leaf surface is contaminated by dust and soil, it should be scrubbed with gauze and clean water at any time. When fertilizing, we should also pay attention to avoid the fertilizer liquid touching the leaves. Watering and washing leaves should prevent stagnant water in the leaf axils, otherwise there will be a rotten heart and "arrows", affecting growth and flowering. (Cao Dihuan, Liu Jianwu)
